How would you describe your art?

Vibrant & colourful.

How long have you been an artist and how did you become an artist?

I have been painting now for 12 years. Thanks to the Irish artist Frank Clarke I bought his Simply Painting Book, brushes & paints & taught myself to paint in watercolour.

I did a painting every day. Sometimes I lost track of time.

What is your favorite medium and why?

Watercolour is my favourite media. I just love the effects it can give. Unfortunately due to having Spinal Scoliosis I find it very hard now to do watercolour. I am using watercolour pencils and gel pens which are easier on my spine.

Pick one work of art from your Art Colony portfolio and tell us the story behind it. Why does this piece have meaning to you?

The Green Door (shown above). This was my first outdoor painting. It was a warm summer's day.

I was very pleased with the result when I finished it.

Tell us about one medium, technique or style that you would like to try working with (that you have not tried before) and why you would like to try this.

I would like to use Gouache as its easier to rectify your mistakes and easier to control.

Is there an element of making art that you enjoy the most, and why?

I can lose myself for hours and I find it great therapy.

If you could imagine the “perfect art day” for yourself, what would it be like?

A warm summer's day sitting in a field of poppies listening to the bees humming.

If you could spend 24 hours with one artist, living or historical, who would you want to spend the day with and why? What would the two of you do?

Monet. I love his work.  I would love to sit in the Garden in Giverny with him painting the water lilies.

Do you have any tips or advice for aspiring artists?

Keep painting.

Hi Mary, congratulations on POTW and great to see your art featured and read your interview. I too find, when I paint, I lose myself and all track of time... Paint in Giverny; I would like to do that too!

So beautiful, Mary! I also love to paint in watercolor using vibrant colors. I love the deep rich colors in your paintings.I love the three flower paintings on the top page. I am looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Congrats Mary!  I must pay attention more, I didn't know you were from Ireland...lol.........Love your art. I looked up Simply Painting Book. I don't know if it will help me...lol.... I tried watercolors, they seem to have a mind of their own. I would love to be able to paint like you.

LOVELY WORK, Mary !!

You talked me into it Mary, I just bought it...lol........I love watercolor, I want to be able to do it...thank you.

What a great interview, Mary. I enjoyed it, and your work,  very much :)

Hi Mary! Congratulations...Always love your art..Enjoy your week! I really liked your interview!

CONGRATS Mary on being featured POTW...love your interview and love your art....enjoy your week of fame...lol....Aloha

Congratulations Mary!   I'm a big fan of your work.  You make watercolor art look so easy but I know it's not, actually I find it very difficult.  I guess I need the control that acrylic allows me to have (hmmm, what does that say about my personality?!)  I thoroughly enjoyed your interview & your advice for aspiring artists...Keep painting! That about says it all! Enjoy your week Mary!  xoxo
