How long have you been an artist and how did you become an artist?
As a child I always wanted to create and I have done a lot of creative things like knitting, wood and stone carving, metal working bookbinding and drawing.
During my working years (along with having 2 children) I had no time for doing crafts.
I seriously started drawing about 5 years ago.
What is your favorite medium and why?
Due to my physical health (rheumatoid arthritis) I don’t have a favourite medium. I use whatever I can manage at the moment. I seriously started drawing about 5 years ago (when my health was very poor, and I barely could hold a brush) with Zentangle-like drawings. In 2013 I discovered ArtRage, a digital drawing program, which I liked a lot. At the moment I am exploring coloured pencils.
Shell in ArtRage (shown above)
In December 2013 I had a lot of problems with my hip-prosthesis. The doctor told me I wasn’t allowed to walk at all from that moment on. After some days of self-pity I searched on the internet for things to do and then I discovered The Art Colony.
I signed in and posted some of my Zentangles. The feedback I received was so warming.
After that I discovered ArtRage and my first post was “Shell” in art Rage. And again The feedback was always so lovely.
It made me feel accepted and I enjoyed having friends all over the world, even though I was just sitting on my chair at home.
It made me want to create paintings even on the computer instead of using a brush or pencils.
(Btw I have a brand-new hip-prosthesis and after revalidation I can walk again, so everything is ok now.)
Is there an element of making art that you enjoy the most, and why?
I just want to create and all my drawings are special to me. When drawing, I forget everything and everyone around me and I am totally happy.
If you could imagine the “perfect art day” for yourself, what would it be like?
All my creative days are “perfect days”.
Do you have any tips or advice for aspiring artists?
Don’t be afraid to try something new, and don’t allow yourself to feel inadequate.
Experiment as much as you can!
Anything else you'd like to mention that I didn't ask?
Thanks for letting me be part of The Art Colony!
