i have a 16x20 canvas. how much acrylic paint will i need to cover the whole thing in a solid background color?  i get the liquitex heavy body 2 ounce tubes. the reason i ask is because i'll have to mix the color and want to be sure to make enough.

I would mx up a pile of the color you want and add a medium if you start to see you will need more.   I think it is best to have too much, you can always vary the tone and  use it later.    It will depend on the size of your brush and how thick you paint I would think.   Good Luck!!
