Friesian

The Friesian, preferred by the medieval knights because of it's speed and endurance, which made it favoured against the workhorses. The true War Horse. But it was not because of the knight's armour alone, a suit of armour weighed less than the modern infantryman's back pack, despite Sir Laurence Olivier depicting a knight being hoisted by a crane when mounting in “Henry V”. He was advised
that this never happened and a man dressed in armour demonstrated that it was relatively easy to mount using the normal steps. But Sir Laurence persisted, so everyone that sees re-runs of the film will believe it to be the truth. Shades of Hollywood and “Braveheart”!
Only pure black Friesians can be registered as True Blood.

have a great week, peoples

Hi Ed,  Wonderful drawing and thanks for the history behind this breed.   I always wondered about the weight of the armour on a horses back and why their legs did not buckle under them.   I will wonder no more.

Hope you are well.
