Dull Shreaks on Acrylic Painted Surfaces

Hi, this is my first time posting as a new member of this community. I am returning to art after some years of not doing any work. I often had the unfortunate experience where after completely covering a surface with acrylics these dull shreaks would appear after the paint has dried. They are seen when viewed from a certain angle creating a finish that is not uniform. Even when the paint is mixed with acrylic medium the problem persists somewhat. Does anyone have an answer to this problem? I…See More

Hi Calvin...

Yes it would appear that Cryla and Finity are Atrist grade and System3 and Galeria are Student grade.

This is the difference between Artist and Student acrylics:.........

Artist quality

  • Highest pigment levels
  • Varied price range
  • Widest choice of colour
  • Limited colour shift

Student Quality

  • Less paint coverage
  • More affordable price range
  • Greater colour shift
  • Good for large scale painting and under-painting

Cheers - Dallas

H, Calvin..

Sorry for the confusion..
The last part of my comment refers to the way a spraying a coating of clear sealer over your finished artwork brightens up the acrylic colors.

As for using water with acrylics.. I never thin my acrylics with water, I always use a acrylic medium to thin them.

I do not know which type of acrylic paint you use, but, there are two types of tubed acrylics available.. Student and Artists...
I would never use the Student type, they are usually very poor quality. If that is what you are using, then I would recommend changing to the Artist's type.
