Rose Wilder Lane

Thanks to Nelson's observant eye, I realize that, when I posted this in my gallery, I ran out of characters.  There's only a little of the story missing, but it does make the ending sound better.  I'm posting it as a blog in it's complete form.

Thanks again, Nelson.

I bet you thought you knew the whole…

Durfort France

I have plans for the summer in France and working with larger pieces of silk as a wraparound experience is a part of those plans. If i can fund it i will set up a community silk painting project. This historic industry is now nearing it's end and as the village changes ,new people and families come…

I'm so nervous

I have my canvas gesso and my paint brushes ready I'm nervous and a little bit scared. I then I think in my mind should I try watercolor or acrylic . Which is more forgiving? Which one will I mess up less with. I appreciate the canvas to much to slaughter it with my novice brush strokes and then I  breath in and out and hold off another day. Has anyone that has created these most amazing pieces of the human emotion had this problem when you first put paint to canvas? Let me know how you…

New to the Art Colony

ok -- jumping in here with both feet.  Have rarely posted any of my art (outside of my photography) in any type of forum, although I've been painting now for about 15 or so years.  Have tried acrylics, but always return to watercolour as I like to watch the colour burst into life as it hits the water.  While I will try just about any subject (although, 'portrait' may have had its one and only attempt), I prefer 'botanicals'. Since we moved house 5 years ago, I have not picked up a paint…

Abstractions?

Abstractions are neither easily definable or easily accomplished.  I find that what I call an abstraction, meaning lifted out of the realm of the specific to the realm of the general, is not seen as such by others, instead, they are often called expressive works.  So, I have tried to…

Spring In Full Swing

Hello there.  It has been awhile since I last posted a blog, though I've continued to paint all along. I tried my hand at oil painting for the first time, about six weeks ago, I was not thrilled. The painting turned out ok, but I was not prepared for the smell of the paints and thinners, (even the odorless kind) and cleaning the brushes was a  constant pain in the butt . Then when I finally finished it, I was astounded to learn how long it took my painting to dry.

With acrylics it…
