I have a gigantic vinyl record collection...duplicates of many, and have decided, they are the perfect canvas (all ready round with grooves!!)for me to try some of my Mandalas.

I actually discovered the Art Colony, in my search for how to draw Mandalas, at the beginning of the summer.  I don't know much about acrylics, and I am all for exploring..should I prime the vinyl record first...would gesso be a good idea?  Any suggestions would be helpful...especially brand names..  Thanks and happy creating to all.

gesso would be a good idea... it should stick to the vinyl pretty good.  I was thinking the same thing about records and mandalas!! lol.... post as soon as you get one done!!! cant wait to see it!  happy painting!

will do...got my gesso - white and clear, plus something called Acylic Flow Aid...won't be long now!

Unless you plan to fill up the grooves entirely with gesso, I would think your acrylic paint would tend to run into the grooves. That might create interesting patterns, but certainly would not be conducive to making mandalas.
