Hello, I have just had my first request for a print of a piece of my artwork but am finding it difficult to decide on choice of paper, sizing, who to use (am UK based). Any advice would be much appreiated.

Hi Sue :) I would dearly love to know the WHOLE process as ive been asked in the past too but haven't a clue how to go about it! ;) What kind of a printing company I would go to, what specifically to ask for etc, so ill be following your post with an eager eye hahahahaha!!! :D

There are places online that will do prints, costs will vary.  Also, you can look for online are shops that print on demand (POD) so that people can order your work from there and you don't have to worry about any of the printing decisions.  An example is FineArtAmerica.com.

Congrats! and good luck!

Hi all I am very interested in the discussion that is taking place about prints I see you have mentioned a company called FineArtAmerica.com off hand does anyone know of any good companies in the UK.

Hi Nick -  FineArtAmerica is a print on demand company, so customers would order from your website. FAA prints what the customer orders and ships it directly to the customer.  If it is a US customer, it shouldn't be too expensive as far as shipping costs.  They also print on canvas, phone cases, pillows, towels, etc.

If you want to have prints on hand to sell, you may want to consider getting a nice printer and a nice heavy paper to print on.  I have an Epson printer that will handle paper up to 13x19".  They have several nice papers, but for art prints, I use their Premium Presentation paper with a Matte finish. I always get good results and the prints look and feel professional.  If that is not an option, contact a local print shop and see what they can do for you, just make sure you invest in a nicer paper such as linen and not just plain cardstock. (The inks will bleed on the cheaper paper such as cardstock and won't look as nice.)  Good luck with locating a company in the UK, I'm sure they are there, but all I found in my short search was book printing companies.
