Join us for a month of challenges & prompts to celebrate The Art Colony's 1st Birthday!

Can you believe that the Art Colony is now officially 1 year old?!

It's been a fabulous year, with friendships formed all across the world - transcending geographic boundaries, language barriers, age gaps and cultural differences. Art is truly a unifying force with the ability to bring people together, and we are proud to be a part of it!

In the past year, this site has grown from a single founding member (and her supportive husband) to 3350+ members from all over the world. Over 14,500 works of art have been uploaded to the gallery - each piece a unique creation from a unique point of view, demonstrating the passion and creativity that flow through our members!

All of this would not have been possible without the help of our volunteer moderators - Suzanne Vadnais MonsonDonna Duquette and Meg Mackenzie (and our former moderators Sue Pownall and Alan Minshull), as well as Susanne Skene who organizes our ATC Swaps. Their devotion to this site has helped it blossom into the creative community it is today, so when you get a chance, please thank them for being so wonderful!!

In honor of The Art Colony's 1st Birthday, we're having a month of fun challenges inspired by the ideas of birthdays, ones and firsts!

Each day in June we'll present you with a new challenge, prompt or discussion. We invite you to participate in as many as you want! There is no time limit to these challenges, so feel free to participate in a challenge that was posted on a previous day or week, if you feel inspired.

The first challenge will be posted on June 1, and I will update this post to include a list of each challenge after it has been posted, so you can easily find them in one place.

We hope you have fun with this month of challenges!

Congratulations to all of you who keep the Art Colony going and to all its members.  What an accomplishment, and so quick.  I look forward to continuing to be part of the group, even though I havent been here much lately. I look forward to the challenges too..  Best Wishes Pauline Donohoe

Woohoo! What an exciting month we have coming up. Congratulations everyone!

Congratulations to everyone! I love this site and it is has been a great help to me in my art and to see what accomplishments other artists are making. I so appreciate the tips and suggestions from other artists. This is an awesome site and I am very glad to be part of it! Thank you Thaneeya for creating such a wonderful place for artists to hang out in!

Congrats people... "art a year" and lets more of art & artist share each other. :) once again congrats guys.. :)

Congratulations and thanks. TAC is my very favourite art site. I spend way too much time drooling over paintings--and hey, I've even bought some of the ones I loved.

Congratulations Thaneeya on having a wonderful vision and working toward it's success. Thank you to all the moderators who have helped in making "The Art Colony" such a helpful and friendly place for all of us  with a passion for art to come together! Cheers !!!!

Yipee - YiYo - Ki Yay!!!!!!!

Thank you so much for your wonderful replies, everyone!  I'm really touched and pleased to hear how much you enjoy The Art Colony.  It's the members that makes the community shine, and I am honored to have so many helpful, generous, kind, creative, inspiring members on this site!

Now I'm quoting Donna twice, but there is something she said that Meg included in her TAC's 1st Year in Review post that really hits home:

"The Art Colony is special, made that way by people like you sharing your art and inspiring each other. I hope the time you spend here is rewarding, enriching, inspiring, motivating, and most of all, fun!" - Donna Duquette

I couldn't have said it better myself!

Btw do check out Meg's Year in Review when you get the chance - it includes artwork and quotes from so many of our members, pulled from forum posts, blogs, discussions, etc. over the past year.

This is going to be the best birthday party ever!  It's been an honor and a joy to be associated with you, Thaneeya, my fellow mods, Meg and Su, and all the wonderful and talented members of The Art Colony.  Congratulations, everyone, for making this such a happening place!

congratulations; proud to be a member

Thank you all for making this possible. This site has been an inspiration for me to get back to creating again.

When I am feeling like I can't get motivated, I stroll through the site and get a lot of inspiration and then off I go.........

Wow, this is very good working for just a year. And so many nice members. :-)
