Does anyone have experience with Old Holland oils? I want to try them in a limited palette but would like some opinions first as they are expensive...

Well too late anyway, I'm pretty sure Santa is bringing me some.

What is your experience with other paints? I have only used M Grahm so far and see no reason to change.  I'm tempted by Old Holland that everyone talks about as being the cats pajamas. I haven't seen them to be all that expensive either.

Hi Dick

I can't speak for M Graham as I haven't used them but I tried Winsor and Newton, Gamblin, Daler Rowney, Art Spectrum, etc, but as soon as I squeezed a tube of Old Holland I knew they were different, thick from the high pigment load, very mature, intense colours. I like my paint on the thick side so they appeal to me and also inspire me.

They cost a bomb down here, about $70.00 Australian for a 40ml tube of the cadmiums, the others aren't so bad. It's subjective of course but I think they're well worth the money. If they're cheaper in your parts, give them a go.

Yes the cads are extremely expensive. I avoid the cads for that reason. So far I see no need for them.
