This is my second oil painting that I've worked on, and the first time that I tried painting the sea. I've really enjoyed this painting so far, however, now I feel "stuck" and also feel like there is something missing with the main wave.

Looks good Nikita, especially considering this is only your 2nd oil painting ever!
I'm not a wave expert, but I think with a little more work the wave could look more natural. Right now it looks like your closest wave has 3 sections: the left which is rising, the middle which is folding forward, and the right which is a big splash. They are all connected but to me they feel like 3 different waves, especially with the middle section being so much lower than the left section. Could they be blended together better in a way that makes them feel more connected? Just some thoughts. It might help to Google photos of waves to study how they look, and Google paintings of waves to see how other artists do it.
The colors of the sky are very dramatic but I wonder if maybe some clouds would help to add some further visual interest, as it feels sort of blank at the moment. Most of the activity is happening with the waves so my eyes focus on the bottom half of the painting. With some clouds or something in the sky, the painting might feel more balanced.
I hope this helps. You are on the right track!
Thank you very much for your input Thaneeya and Shelley. Definitely makes sense! Will be working on this one for a while I think :-) Will post updates as I go along!
Thanks again! Much appreciated!
