I know our ATC group is very actively trading small works of art with members around the world. I just wondered if anyone has contemplated trading full-sized works of art? At a recent show, my neighbour artist and I idly discussed the possibility of obtaining each other's work by a straight exchange of paintings. Gifts to each other, if you will. There are a couple of members whose work I'd gladly trade for, but I'm sure there must be government rules against this. (There are about most things!) Does anyone know anything about this?
I have wondered the same thing, would it count as a gift or would it be taxed etc..or....if it was a private swap between two people -as gifts-would there need to be anything said at all.
I think you can give and get a gift from anyone you like. Just like Christmas or birthdays. My friend from Ukraine and I exchange gifts without a problem.
I have also purchased paintings from artists on this site. I live in Canada and have also sold paintings to people--not anyone on this board-- in the US. A 18" x 18" painting on 1 1/2" wrapped canvas, including wrappings to keep it safe, cost me around 60 Canadian dollars to ship UPS. I very much like the idea of trading with someone whose paintings I enjoy and who likes my stuff. Sixty--even a hundred-- dollars for shipping would be chirp chirpy cheep cheap. I could make a list of the paintings I want. Ha ha. The question is: Where would I hang them? My house already looks like a gallery.
