I have been trying to master the technique of swirling acrylic colour around in the canvas like  marbling without success.  I have tried acrylic with flow medium and inks with flow medium but they either do not flow the way I would like or they lose their marbling effect after drying out.  Some have dried with ugly blobs of colour which I didn't want.

At this point I do not have any successful fluid art to show so I have not added any.  Does anyone have any tips or suggestin ?

Hi Thanks Aimeslee,

I have not tried the canvas in the water will try that one but have seen it.  I have  seen all the other ones however have not succeeded to my satisfaction. I was hoping to hear from someone who dabbles in it.  If someone has done so I would like to know what type of paint and flowing medium used, and the proportions of colour to medium.  I have used liquitex flow medium and found it too thick.  It did not flow as well as those showed in the utubes.

Not sure you can make acrylic create a marbling effect on canvas. As you say it never becomes fluid enough since flow mediums only dilute the paint to help it spread . Marbling has a fluidity of movement which is as much to do with the medium its on as it is to do with the paint itself. possibly canvas as a fabric is not suitable for marbling, the weave of the fibre restricting the marbling effect. i will try to find a way ,i like the idea. Good luck.

Hi, all - I thought I'd jump in on this.  The pic here is one I did using acrylics and liquitex pouring medium on canvas.  I do love this method and find it works pretty well.  I think, Seema, you might try the soft body or high flow acrylics with the medium, to loosen it up.  :-)s linda
