On rare occasion I am privileged to do a private swap with a member here at TAC.  I have swapped journal pages now in private trades with Maureen Craddock and Riya Melgert.  Recently, I received this beautiful journal page from Riya and on the back she has explained her process in detail.

It's a lovely page called, "You Are What You Think." Of course when I saw it the interpretation was different and at first glance of the images, I thought it was about embracing or dancing with your inner child. It's just lovely and I will be adding it to my growing collection of journal pages from around the world. Thank you Riya!

I finished my journal page for Riya yesterday and will be sending it off shortly. I will post my page here once she receives it.

FYI I made dyes/inks and spritzers out of RIT dye, and for the most part, it worked really well...you can also use tube watercolors to make sprays for misting

It's a great start Sharon! It's the hardest thing sometimes to take that first step into new territory. I think you'll like journaling. Some artists use their art journal to try out new products or techniques. I like prismacolours too but don't prefer them when I'm journaling for some reason. I use cheap watercolour and/or acrylic paint, stencils (as in things you find in your kitchen!), stamps and gel pens or sharpies. I want to use ink sprays but they are too expensive for my taste. I am looking to make my own inks using cheap left over children's markers and rubbing alcohol. If the experiment works I'll post it on here. Have fun with your new hobby Sharon and keep us posted ...

Would anyone be interested in  FREE, no stress set of classes on different things like art journaling and journal prompts, and a few other things? I could easily get us through a hot summer with something fun to do inside in the cool!

I have taught art journaling, another class about dealing with different emotions, both good and bad, as well as one called "Discovering Myself", where art and creative writing are combined...they were all a blast.....wonder if anyone would be interested in an actual class setting...and the proce would be right...I would do any or all for FREEEEEEEEEE!!!!! lol.....but don't say yes unless you truly feel that way..you won't hurt my feelings...I have also taught altered books, another mini class on adding poetry or found text to your artwork, and some other classes as well....

Hello Sharon, i am excited to see what you think of art journaling. It really is relaxing. I like the no rules part the best and that your free to express yourself much the same as you would in a written diary. I know there are some free lessons on the Internet with regards to journaling techniques. I'll see if I can find the link and get back to you. Meanwhile, go and play with some paint. :)

~~can't wait to see what you have in mind, Susanne!  :-)s

I'd love to have a journal page from you Laura! Artist choice with regards to theme and work on whatever size ground you wish to paint on.

The old timer swap sounds like fun. I'd probably wait until fall though as I have quite a few projects on the go. Meanwhile, there is a swap I am putting up next week that will be quick and easy with the person just having one partner. I think you'll like this one Laura so stay tuned... I may even put the swap up this weekend if I can find some time to organize my thoughts and type it all out.

Have a great weekend!

Laura, it would be such fun to take a class from you.  Just a slight problem...we are all over the US and the world!!!

I can always record the classes and then you could all log into them when you were able...takes the stress out...I have done classes in the past with artists all over the world taking them....

OOO - what a great idea!!  ~~and we'd get to 'meet' you that way, too.  DO IT!!  :-)s

Hello ladies - Laura I think it would be fun to do classes with you.  I have to admit I have not been in my craft room in ages to do any journaling.  I have been drawing some.  My grandson is 13 and loves to draw, so everytime he comes for a visit he says "Grandma can we draw?"  So we sit side by side drawing things he finds on the internet, he likes us to draw the same thing at the same time.

Susanne, I would be honored to send you a journal page...I have been working on such a small scale lately, it will do me good to go a bit larger on this....but not too large,lol...!! I will get on it soon, and get it sent out to you...

Susanne..did I ever get a journal page sent  to you? If not, is there a certain size you prefer and is it "anything goes"? Just let me know

Laura and Debbie! What a nice surprise to hear from two people I have been wondering about for some time now. :) That's cool that you both frame some of your swap/mail art. I have been doing that for years and when I get company they ask if they can go around my house and look at all the art I have hanging up. I have art collected from swaps in every room in the house and proud of it.:) Laura I just had my big collection of journal pages out the other day and was going through them one by one. They go back to the days when Milliande still had her art community for women website. I do have a 4x6 postcard from you but not a journal page. Perhaps we can remedy that sometime? Well thanks for dropping in Laura and Debbie! And I look forward to your pics Laura. Hope you both have a great weekend!

I never use a flash on mine...I use indirect light..a trick I learned from having my Etsy shops...

My problem is the photography of this piece, if anyone has any suggestions?

ok..about the lessons...I will start gearing up for them, filming and putting things together for anyone who wants to take the classes...I am going to have them hosted on my Youtube Channel, and will give you all the URL when I am finished...that way, they don't have to take up any room on this site, and I am free to "do my own thing"..lol...I already have some lessons on there if you guys want to check things out...here is the URL for one of my videos, a flip thru of an altered book...it was my very first video, so don't laugh too much!! lol..............I will post the others wherever you guys want them

https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=jUfaJeSVxqg

Try this code and see if it gets you to my video...it is just a flip thru of one of my altered books...Don't laugh too much at my Texas drawl, lol!

Laura, I couldn't get that link to work...but I did find your Utube entries.....neat!!

When you 'alter' the book, how do you get the pages to be so stiff?

I was wondering...did I ever do those journal pages for you?? I can NOT remember, lol...
