Hello and Welcome to the Beginners Group!

This is the place or beginners to gather and ask questions, seek feedback, and share their thoughts and experiences. Experienced artists willing to provide encouragement and share what they know are also welcome here.

If you are a beginner and would like to share your art, you can either post in the Show & Tell thread or start your own discussion.

If you are a beginner and would like some advice on a specific work-in-progress, you can either post in the WIP thread or start your own discussion.

Experienced Artists--please don't share your artwork in this group unless you are using it to answer a beginner's question.

Remove canvas?

Started by Judy Lynn Aug 14, 2015. 0 Replies

Does anyone have a good way to remove a canvas from it's stretcher frame? I can't get the staples out so I've been cutting it out with an exacto knife from the back side. (should I have added a comment instead of a discussion?)

Good morning to you all I have a question. I have painted a pair of glasses and I do not have any idea how to get that shiny glass effect....or mirror effect and still see through the glass effect for instance to see the eyes underneath. Quite a puzzle to me. If anyone could help me I would appreciate it. Many thanks

Thanks Allan Jones for your helpful comment. The advise you suggest makes sense why did I not think of it. I will give it a go.

My drawing skills are very limited as I am under starters orders still. Having said that I think I am at the stage that I have left the trap and I am rambling slowly down the

I think your work is good I am amazed you are only a year down the road into this art world.

Hi Suz, I think what you experience is natural - we have a 'handedness' that makes working left-handed or right-handed elements more natural to us and small differences that arise as a result show up clearly to our unforgiving eyes. One way to address this (for symmetry in drawing) is to very lightly graph out the paper and work on balancing smaller sections, left and right, then erase the graph lines afterwards.

Some people have natural drawing skills that compensate for this, or acquire them through practice - but I am only a year or so at this and my drawing skills haven't improved much LOL.

There is nothing wrong in moving paper or board around.

Regards, Allan

Hi all well I am a beginner and enjoying the little that I can do so far. I watch videos etc and watch how artists hold the brush angle when painting I find it very hard to draw without to move the paper to try and get both sides the same. There is no way I seem to be able to put the paper or board down look at what I am copying and get it right or near right without moving it round all the time. For instance a heart one side good but if I hold the board and try without to move it I cannot get it if I turn the board then I get there. FUNNY this normal and it comes in time or is it just me?

I do want soon to try and paint on a large canvas so that should turn out

Anyway I am loving this site and all that goes with it. Hope you all have a good week.
