Ok I have several kinds of color pencils. Rose art, Crayola and Berol. What is the best kind to draw with?
Here's one endorsement for Berol Prismacolor pencils. I must add that I haven't tried the others on the market. Go to my Art Colony site (Paul Alan Roth)to view what I did with them.
Of those three, Berol would be the best quality as Rose and Crayola brands are student grade pencils, but you can always practice with any grade of pencil. I've seen nice pieces created with Crayola colored pencils, but I would worry about the lightfast quality if you would like to be able to preserve your work without it fading.
There are quite a few colored pencil groups on Facebook if you are interested in seeing more and getting good colored pencil advice.
Thanks much guys! I find myself leaning toward the Berol pencils too. Don't care for the Crayola brand much at all.
I see I'm catching this thread a little late, but will add my two cents regardless, since I have a minimum of 40 years experience with various colored pencils. I second everyone else--Berol Prismacolor out-performs all others for depth, vividness and workability. And for me the best part is that using Prismacolor or Chartpak markers to blend and deepen, you can achieve effects that rival acrylics and watercolors.
