Margaret Brock asked how to post pics from her iPad in the comments section, and I'm not sure if she ever got an answer.  Do any of you have an answer?  I don't have an iPad :( so I can't give specific advice.

I do use an iPhone 4s, though, and maybe what I do with that will apply to an iPad?  I have my phone set to automatically sync my Camera Roll with my laptop via iTunes.  So any photo I take with my phone is automatically uploaded to my laptop over my home wireless network.  I used to do the very same thing by cabling my phone to my laptop and launching iTunes.

I also have several applications that allow me to access my photos from any of my devices.  They are Google Drive (free), Adobe Revel (this is brand new and requires a subscription), and iCloud (free up to 5GB, I believe).

I could upload directly from my phone to avoid all the file transfers, but I actually find the file transfers less painful than trying to post directly on my phone.  I'm assuming an iPad would be different in that regard.

I'm sure I've only confused the issue, so hopefully an iPad user will come along soon, lol.

Unfortunately, I can't be of any help on this matter.
Got the most rudimentary device to keep in touch with others...

Hi Donna, I didn't get a reply but I guess the answer is that I just can't. I can pst pictures into my albums on the site, but can't include a picture in a reply to a topic such as this one or the thread where everyone is showing their latest doodles.

It makes me sad because I can't really participate in the groups the way others do.

I have limited vision, so using a computer is a bit problematic.

I wonder if posting images to a group could be handled differently. A group album perhaps? That way people wishing to comment or ask about a particular image could do so right attached to the image. I notice that in the thread where everyone is posting its impossible to tell which picture people are commenting on.

I wish this amazing site was more iPad friendly. I know that Thaneeya has made adjustments because I've emailed with her, but I think it's the underlying content management system that is at fault.

I have posted some of my latest doodles in my album over the weekend. I invite you all to visit there and comment.

I wish I could be of more help with your posting issue, Margaret...it just seems that with all this fancy technology, you should be able to post your pics!  I will be getting an iPad sooner or later so maybe I can come up with a workaround then (I'll be wanting one myself!)  In the meantime, your idea of creating a group album is very interesting.  I'll definitely give that some thought and see if I can come up with something workable for the group.  Thanks for the input!  :)

Hi all,

I looked into it and found some discussions on the Ning help forum about the issue of not being able to upload images into discussions while using an iPad. The problem is that the whole 'editing toolbar' doesn't appear, because it's not supported by mobile Safari. Margaret, you probably can't see it but when using a desktop or laptop the editing toolbar appears at the top of the reply box, starting with a button to insert a link, a picture, embed video, and then several buttons for putting text in bold, italics, etc. What a bummer that it doesn't appear on the iPad!

I have an iPad so I'll play around with is and see if I can come up with a workaround, and meantime I'll email Ning support to see if they have any suggestions. Sorry for the inconvenience, it is indeed an issue with the underlying content management system.

Donna, you've been able to upload images directly from your phone into TAC? Would you mind sharing the procedure you would use to do that? I've heard from some people that they were able to use their phones to upload images but others were unable to, and due to the range of mobile devices it's hard to pin down why it works for some and not others. But perhaps if you know of a procedure that works for you it would be great to hear about it so I can pass it along if I'm asked about it again.

Ning is upgrading later this year from Ning 2.0 to Ning 3.0, so maybe they'll be better equipped to handle iPads and phones. That would be awesome!

This is interesting. I switched to the Skyfire browser and I see the full editing strip. And I can add an image. My best guess - its a Flash problem.

if you have the ear of anybody at Ning, tell them it can be fixed because prior to iOS 6, I could not upload any images site any site (including yours) directly from my iPad. With iOS 6, suddenly I can upload. So it should be possible to attach images to thread posts. I didn't say "easy", just "possible" :)

ill upload this to make sure it really works

Thaneeya, I just tried to upload an image and I can't either.  It has been a very long time since I attempted doing that so either my memory isn't accurate (probably a very safe money bet) or it was before Ning Mobile???  Also, I was probably using my old iPhone since my 4s is fairly new.  Sorry for the false hope!  ;)

Oh, and just for ha-ha's I tried posting something with Google Chrome and that has even more limited functionality than Safari.

Margaret, thanks so much for the tip about Skyfire! I'll be sure to pass that along if anyone has a similar problem in the future. I'm so glad you found a solution. I think you're spot on that it's a problem with the code Ning has used for the editing bar which, may be Flash-based.

Donna, thanks for the update on uploading pics from your phone. I had another look into the possibility of enabling members to upload images directly from their phones, but the solution offered by Ning involves giving each member a special email address that they would email the pics to from their phone... but to enable that means that I'd no longer have an @Art-is-fun.com email address, which isn't a viable possibility at all. So, we'll just wait and see if they roll out a better system for mobile uploads!

Thaneeya, this is too funny.

When I use Safari on my iPad, I can't post a picture to an on-going thread. But I CAN post to a thread using Skyfire.

When I use Safari, I can post to the artwork album on my page.

Now here's the funny part. I CANNOT post to my album from Skyfire.

Fun and games.
