carrying paintings to art shows

Started by Judy Lynn. Last reply by Judie Martinez Aug 30, 2015. 9 Replies

I have 30 acrylic paintings to carry to a local show on 9/18. I've never had to transport that many paintings. The smallest is 11x14 and largest 16x20. There's an art festival 9/12 too, so I'd like a reusable (inexpensive) solution. Any advice?

This is what happens if you have been in the field for 20 years Ann Marie, so be prepared! I have a loyal customer base and stores and an art school I have worked with for over ten years. So I try to keep it all going! And it is so fulfilling to be doing this work. Plus I don't have makes it easier to use my time for these kinds of things. My husband is great at letting me know when he hasn't had enough time with me!

I would love to know more about setting up an eCommerce site through Big Cartel. Can you tell us more about this?

I do graphic design work for small businesses and manage a team of graphic designers. We do everything from designing logos to creating books, brochures, and websites. And I continue to make and sell jewelry and all of the other things I listed below. I am not selling my creations in any catalogs at this time. I am exploring selling more through internet businesses like etsy. I also teach art classes for adults and run summer art camps for children.

Ann Marie I have been able to buy my materials wholesale because I have my own design business. I sell my work at shows or to retail buyers so I do not have to charge sales tax. I see beads in the same category as paint and canvas, they are art supplies. I have been making and selling jewelry, paintings, collage, sculpture, and 3 dimensional wall and garden art for a little over 15 years.

I had a series of story bracelets, my enrichuals card decks, art prints and collaged gift boxes selling in the Femail Creations catalog. I calculated all materials and doubled this to give me a materials baseline. Then I price my work according to similar items in the catalog. I made a small profit using this process.

I currently sell at local shows and to some wonderful stores in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota market, as well as the rural art community I live in. It's not a big money maker, but I am not in this to make a lot of money!
