This year, I made a virtual art studio for my Mom since she didn't get to have one in her youth. Instead, she was taking care of us ruffians and getting a double PhD in Anthropology and Education while working (!). All of the miniatures in this room work (the drawers open and close and have things in them and the closet (with the white globe lamp on top) opens and has hangers and her knee high boots in it, etc.). Behind the curtain on the right is her tatami mat and under her hanging ball chair is a folded up comforter for when she stays too late and needs to catch some zzz's. The mandalas on all the fabrics, the walls and floor are all ones I made and the bookcase made of a fruit crate has tiny books with my artwork or journal entries inside. The artwork is all miniaturized pieces of mine which I printed onto actual canvas and my husband Graham made the easel and stretched the paintings on stretcher bars (all made of match sticks). The ball chair sways and I crocheted the cover. Oh, and there are skylights in the ceiling of what is supposed to be an attic dormer (hence the angle of the back wall above the 'tile'. I really enjoyed making this.

Thanks everyone!  Actually, it's a bit bittersweet, Debra, because it's part of an ongoing memorial to my Mom who died in 2012 at 85.  We used to talk almost every day from the time I was born so it's not easy to let go.  It's not morbid at this point, she's just with me in most things I do, especially art since she was the professional artist and art teacher in our family.

Awesome !! You have thought of everything ! How long did this take you to build?

Thanks so much, Sharon!  I think my Mom would have liked it a lot.  :D  It took a couple of weeks... I had to decide which mandalas to use for the various tiles and wall paper, which to print on to fabric, and what to put in the tiny books.  Oh, and find a way to make the hanging ball chair! ;)  That was so much fun.
