Sugar Skull Art

Here's a collection of my Day of the Dead artwork, featuring colorful sugar skulls and dancing skeletons. These artworks were created with media such as acrylics, colored pencils and ink.

OMG Thaneeya, This is your art???  These sugar skulls inspired the ones I have recently done. I ran across them online and fell in love with them. Since they were a bit of an experiment for me, and being broke, I decided to paint them on 96lb instead of using a canvas. It turns out that I LOVE them but am not sure what to do because they are a bit wavy. I would love to have them matted and framed, but I'm not sure if they should be glued to something or what. Any suggestions?

Hi Ellane, Glad you like my sugar skull art! :)  It's cool to hear you've been exploring Day of the Dead art too.  It's fun, isn't it?

Depending on the medium you used, I'd suggest flattening out your wavy pieces by placing them under some heavy books.  You might want to put a piece of wax paper on top of the image though, to protect the surface of the artwork.  If they are flattened, it would make it easier to mat.

On the other hand, you could just go ahead and mat and frame it as is and the pressure of being sandwiched between the mat/glass/frame/mountboard would flatten it out to a degree.  But I think it might be worth attempting to flatten them out first, under heavy books!

Good luck with it!

I have managed to get a lot of the edge curl to lay down by painting a the back of the paper. ha, who knew! So now, I am going to weigh them down with books. Thanks.
