This was the first watercolor that I did, since returning to art, in 2013 or thereabouts.  I created it under the mentoring of Bob Heinrichs, an artist in his own right.  My work on "Foxy" took me a lot of time, as I was first learning the media.  When I began, I didn't even know that water color is started lightly, and then one builds with layers of color.  "Foxy" showed me how watercolor is transparent; as I added layers to "Foxy", I began to see the colors underneath.  I also experimented with dry brush technique and got to observe its effects.  This was done from a magazine photo.  Bob advised me in how to create the 'blurry' effect of the background of the woods.  I did an initial wash of sap green, and then added the leaves over it.  A photographer friend and fellow artist in the class, helped me distinguish between photos and painting - I wanted my work to look like the photo.  Now I have come to accept that a painting can be the artist's own interpretation.  I have therefore come to accept "Foxy" as somewhere between real and whimsical, but, for me, (since I love nature and animals), endearing!
