Your work is very impressive. Having just seen the silk blouse with its patterns, can I ask about this one (and some others) are the lines the 'resist' to contain each dye?

Hello Allan.

In answer to your question the ones on this picture are a gutta resist, an aqueous wax with which i drew the picture onto the silk fabric prior to applying the dyes. The wax leaves the fabric during the three hour steaming process. In this case he gutta is black so it leave a black line, there are many choices of wax resist and many colours. It is possible to do the picture and have no lines at all, however tis requires lots of time and endless patience/skill. With the picture i was happy to allow the lines to show. I often paint without resist and control the flow of dyes in other ways.
