This is really wonderful.  It actually feels like a memory.  Great work.

 Thank you Paul and Harry.

Paul that house was known as a "Back to Back house the only door was the front one. one room as you opened the front door and no kitchen.  just a small stove and sink  tucked in a corner.,   No bathroom and the toilet was around the back of the house in the backyard belonging to 25 shaw st. . To have a bath they had to use the communal wash house that had  baths. and laundry facilities. or come to us for a bath !! This was in 1952 !!

Thanks Kathy my dad was born in one in a mining town they had just the two rooms that his parents and 8 brothers and sisters were somehow crammed into. At least the port of London dockers   house I lived in until I was two had  the luxury of a small yard big enough to to fit in an outside loo, a tin bath hung on a nail until bath night, a mangle and  few rabbits kept for the pot. I did have to wait until we moved into the countryside until I got a bed because like many kids back then I slept in one of the draws because there was no room for a cot..

I think there was a better sense of community back then and people were certainly a lot more trusting because nobody shut or locked Thier doors back then
