Pen & ink, on 14x17 Strathmore smooth 300 series Bristol Board.

One of the things I like about old skool Yorkshire architecture, is that it was built using the very stuff which Yorkshire is made of: Millstone Grit, and given time to weather, it slowly blends back in with the environment......I like that.
This is Hebdon Bridge, in the bustling village of...erm...Hebdon Bridge.
I say bustling, because as you can see from the pseudo quayside, this particular spot is set up for people (mainly tourists), but there isn't a single solitary soul in sight. Which believe me, in the middle of a sunny summer's day, is very unusual indeed.
This bridge says much about the kind of folks who built all this stuff.....no nonsense, and as tough as old boots.

Hindsight tells me that I made a big boo boo with this pic, in not thinking much about which method to use.
As I got into the pic, I realized just how much work it was going to take using only pens. Instead of using Bristol Board, I should've used illustration board, as then I could've used a few washes, which would've made life much easier.
Anyhow, I didn't have any illustration board.....and I needed to draw.
If I include the forced six months break from art which I had to take, this damned pic took me EIGHT months!
And after all that, I don't really like it that much either......pft! :o)

Glad to see you back at it Mark. This is such a beautiful pen and ink work my friend.  The details and your attention to depth and values is just outstanding as always.

Looking forward to more now that you are back in action. Great job mate.

Fabulous work, Mark. You have such great attention to detail that I so admire. I love the shadow work of the tree on the sidewalk, the little rocks, stonework of the bridge, and the perspective too.. Very nice. Well done!

The perspective and detail are outstanding.  I take my hat off to you: you are such a fine draughtsman with an abundance of patience.

Its fantastic Mark, yorkshire has so much to offer for an artist, those people who put up these bridges certainly made them to last.

Mark, I can't believe I actually got on this site.

Millstone Grit was worth 8 months. It portrays Hebdon Bridge to perfection. You are way too hard on yourself. You apparently have no idea what some would give to have your talent.
