I love how this piece turned out - it's a 3D version of one of my paintings called Blue Forest Geode. The inside walls are mirror board so the way the piece looks changes as you move around and see it from different perspectives. The outside of the box (which can't be seen in this photo) looks like an old and well-used Maple wood drawing board with ink and paint stains. This is in memory of my Mom, a fine artist and painter, who died in 2012 at 85. I think of this piece as a geode because it's old and beat up on the outside but shiny, faceted, and like another world inside.

Thanks for your comments, Mary, Nelson, Sharon, and Kenneth.  They are much appreciated!  I'm really looking forward to seeing it in place in the show, not to mention seeing all of the other works people have made.  There are supposed to be 150 pieces in this show!  I saw about 20 of them when I brought mine in last Sunday.

It sold for $125 and I think that's pretty cool.  It makes me happy to think someone has it in their house as an object of pleasure.

To remember it, I made a 4" cube version of the piece for myself, with some minor changes due to the small size.  I look forward to the box show next year - I have some ideas! ;)
