This is a copy/drawing of my mother's painting. She must have painted her work circa 1965, when I was aged twenty-seven. I never knew her and only discovered her granddaughter about six years ago. It was her granddaughter who gave me a copy of the story of her early life in Walkern, Hertfordshire - and it is there that my mother's painting appears, among the handwritten pages.
The copying of her painting has been a sort of pilgrimage - where I trace my mother's own work and think much about her as I do so.

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments.

Yes, Kathy and Marilyn - it was wonderful finding out about my mother. I recall my adoptive mother telling me when I came home with a below-average school report that I should be thankful - 'they' (she and my late wonderful adoptive father) "pulled me from the gutter". Imagine when I eventually plucked up the courage to search for her (I was 75 when I took the plunge) or her relatives - she was a state-registered nurse and midwife, an artist, a writer, a poet and a great diarist. I am so sorry I never had the chance of meeting her. They laughed when I told them my adoptive mother had said I was 'pulled from out of the gutter'.
