Here's another artwork I created for my Day of the Dead Coloring Book.
In addition to skulls and skeletons, I decided to include a drawing of a girl wearing sugar skull makeup, since it's become such a huge trend in recent years. This is one of my favorite images in the book. In contrast to most of the photos and artwork I've seen of people wearing sugar skull makeup, which tend to look morose and serious, I strove to make my girl look happy and carefree, with a more celebratory air.
It was tough choosing the color scheme. I wanted to make her a brunette but in the end I decided to make her blonde because yellow is such a vibrant color that goes well with other bright colors. My goal was to create a joyful, whimsical Day of the Dead portrait!
I colored her using Prismacolor colored pencils, Copic markers, Crayola markers, and glittery Fiskars gel pens.
