This is a commissioned drawing that I did for my boss's wife on her birthday, of their daughter. I had only been drawing for just a few months when I did this one, so you can imagine my hesitation in taking it on. But I was pleased and my boss and wife were very pleased with it, most importantly. Whew!

You did a great job Jill.  It's so hard to draw blonde hair.

Thank-you Dors and Iveta. Yes, blonde hair is hard to do draw and my boss loved the way I had focused so much on her face and less on her hair and clothing, etc. I knew I had done okay, when I showed it to him for the final approval before matting and framing, and he got teary-eyed.

debashish, I use tortillions for blending in shadows for this drawing and most of all my portraits and most other graphite drawings, as well.  I like the realism they can give a drawing and the soft or hard shadows of the face. I generally just add some graphite, then blend, then add more graphite, then blend and continue until I get the tone I want. Sometimes I barely add any in some areas, while other areas need more darkness. That's basically, my technique.
