Mandala done for the Zen-Sational challenge. The colors and the movement from the center out to the universe makes me feel zen-sational every time I look at it.

Hi, Sharon!  I do most of my drawing in Painter these days since my hands hurt a lot from arthritis.  I use a Wacom tablet and pen or brush and these mandalas are all done using symmetry tools.  The media used in this particular piece include impasto (wet and dry) and pen and ink for the thinner and smoother lines.  I change the size of the brush/pen often while drawing and I change back and forth between pen and ink/impasto as well.  It's how I used to do things with natural media and I appreciate being able to continue that way without the mess. ;)  I like blending the colors using impasto paint and adding fine detail with pen and ink.  I used to use water colors to make the color blends and large shapes and then go back in with indigo ink and a pen nib (or a rapidograph) to create the finer details.  In that case, I usually juxtaposed the colorful watercolors with black lines.  With Painter, I can make the finer lines any color (or lack thereof) I like, which is a side benefit I've made great use of as I've gotten used to the way it works.

Such beautiful results !!I've been hesitant to learn how to create on the computer but I can see from your art that after I learn the basics the possibilities are endless. Thanks for this info,Carla and I look forward to your next creation.

Thanks so much Grace.

Sharon, the main thing is to invest in a program which will really let you grow from novice to expert without having to buy other programs or sell your first born to afford it.  Painter is my first and foremost suggestion to everyone because it's a reasonable price and does just about everything.  I've never found another piece of software which is as flexible or powerful.
