Profile Information

Painter, maker, fixer, dreamer, doer, buggeritupper and fixitupper.  I am into everything.  I want to know how everything works and I want to make one myself.  I build kitchens, I paint walls, do Tromp l'oeil, paint effects, power tools.  So, constantly re-inventing the wheel, constantly thinking, planning and doing less than I would have liked because of that!  I have been drawing and painting since, well, forever, I think.

I have just finished a year at art school. To broaden my horizons, you know.   I did pottery.  I thought I would absolutely LOVE ceramics!  Instead, I got bored at the wheel (What??!!)  I found myself yelling and swearing more than usual, cause the clay would not play nice.  Flopping everywhere, it frustrated the proverbial out of me!  So, I can make things in 3D, but I just don't have the patience to deal with something that has so little integrity in its wet form.  I don't have to scream at my paint brushes to get them to the party!

I did sculpture.  Yeah, that was fun when the material played with.  The potato played with and was easy to carve and so rewarding till it returned to carbon and took my lovely little sculpture with it!  So I tried sandstone.  Yep, that works.  Except, who's got the patience to prep and saw away unwanted chunks for days on end before you can actually start the real carving. So, again, back to the paint brush.

I did jewelry.  Now that was fun! Made a ring that I am happy to wear for the rest of forever, but, you know, my paint brush is still nicer than sawing and sawing with a teeny, weeny little saw blade that is ready to snap at the slightest provocation.

Did life drawing.  Nudes have been a staple for many years, so that was fun.  It was the only viable class really, cause half way through the year I realised that broadening my horizons proved only one thing:  I am a painter.

Hi Denise, my kiwi friend, yes you must be roasting as well, I live around 2 hrs from Sydney, they are calling our weather at the moment monsoon weather, hot as hell during the day (38+) and lots of thunderstorms at night, I admit I love the storms though, I go and stand in them to cool off a little. Sad to say this is actually cooler than 2 weeks ago, we and I assume you too? had an absolute scorcher it was over 46 degrees which is nuts, my brother reckons it was 50 deg on the way home from work that day so he reckons if its still 50 at 6pm then it had to a lot hotter than what they said. Hope you are having a lovely week, all the best

Hi Denise, I haven't found my "one" medium either, I have so much fun with so many mediums, I'm not sure I'll ever just have the one. Yes I do understand, about being both an artist and having other loves and interests,  I was a crafter for many years and my Mum has been saying to me for a while that I'm an Artist rather than a crafter, I suppose I'm both, but I admit I absolutely love art in all its forms and I want to try every medium I possibly can. Thanks for your message, hope you have a lovely week. Can't wait to see your next piece of art.
