I grew up in San Diego, CA, but I have lived in Cincinnati, well, for a long time. I have always been creative and artistic, but life got in the way and there never seemed to be time to pursue my interest in art. I always WANTED to get into it, but didn't know where to start. I always felt like I had all this creativity screaming to get out, but it didn't have anywhere to go! It just kept swirling around in there and now it seems to be taking over.. I want to do little else BUT paint! Stupid job gets in the way! I also come from a very creative family; it seems that most people in my family - parents, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, and even my own children are either talented with art, music, writing, photography, or dance. Some of us just take longer to find our place!
After raising my kids, I went back to school to get a business degree and took a drawing class for my fine arts credit. My first day of class I felt very insecure and unsure of myself, asking myself, "What the heck are you doing here?" After a few weeks I realized that I could do it, and that I was actually not half bad! That was less then two years ago, and since then I have taken several more drawing classes. It was then that I discovered a love for oil pastels. Then I added a painting class. I am currently in Painting II working with acrylics.
I guess I'm kind of ADD when it comes to art.. I don't like to stick with the same subject all the time. As you can see I jump around quite a bit... sometimes it's an animal, or an abstract. That is partly because most of my work is for a project for class, but usually the subject matter is pretty open. I love color color color! The biggest struggle I have had in class was when we had to do a still life with just blacks, grays, and white. Not my thing!
