About me

Hi All!  I used to be a moderator here, but then I bought a custom picture framing business. (If you happen to be in Connecticut, it's Affordable Framing in East Granby.)  I love everything about owning my own business...well, maybe not the long hours I work sometimes.  But, everything else.  I love chatting with customers about art and helping them pick out the perfect frame.  Some of my favorite projects involve rescuing a long forgotten artwork from a splintered frame and mildewed, acid burned mat.  It's amazing how good a humble tag sale find can look!  I've even sold a few pieces of my own art.  It's all good!

The only downside to starting up my business was that I had neither time nor energy to devote to my own artwork.  Things are humming along pretty well now, so I'm getting back to my drawing and painting.  Yay!  Life is truly good!

Happy Holidays!

Posted on December 20, 2013 at 8:00pm 5 Comments

I haven't had time to be around here much lately, and I really miss all of you!  I hope all of you are happy and well, to those of you who celebrate holidays this time of year I wish you Season's Greetings!

Since the year is almost over, I've been thinking about my resolutions for the new year.  One of them is to renew my passion for art.  Actually, the passion is still there, I just need to adjust my priorities a bit.  Next year, I want to spend more time making art, and more time…

June 2013 Robert Warren Workshop

Posted on July 1, 2013 at 8:23pm 3 Comments

Last June, I attended an oil painting workshop with Robert Warren.  I was very new to oil painting at the time so while I did learn a ton, I also felt like I missed a lot because I was struggling so much to keep up.  I was so stressed out after completing that workshop that I unsure about taking another one.  But, having a year to paint and learn how to handle the medium made this year's workshop, which I attended last week, a completely different experience. It was so nice to be able to…

Four Days with Cecile Baird

Posted on November 8, 2012 at 2:19am 12 Comments

A few weeks ago, I participated in a 4-day workshop given by Cecile Baird, one of my very favorite colored pencil artists.  Not only is Cecile an amazing artist, she is also genuine, generous, and downright nice!  I learned so much from her, and maybe even more important than that, I came away energized and excited, with all sorts of ideas for future projects.  I rediscovered all of the things I love about working with colored pencil, like the ease with which I can create fine details and…

Robert Warren Seminar

Posted on June 25, 2012 at 3:49pm 3 Comments

I was lucky enough to be able to spend the last few days painting in a seminar with Robert Warren.  I'm new to oil painting so I was more than a little concerned that I wouldn't be able to keep up.  Robert is a wonderful teacher, though, and he takes the time to explain the "why" along with the "how" so even the less experienced painters in the room like myself were able to keep up and get some pretty darned amazing results.  Not…

Donna, have been trying to section my artwork into portfolios, like you have done, I can not seem to manage it, it doesn't seem to allow me to drag into the folder, I'm prolly being real stupid and it's obvious, but help! Incidentally, i am working from an I pad.

Wow, it is even more special knowing how you made the card. I want to find a frame for both the card and the flower. Thanks again, barb - I will post both on the Swap Art site.

Hey Donna, The African Daisy is beautiful.  Thank you so much.  You are very controlled in your watercolor painting.  I am afaid that I"m pretty sloppy.  I was wondering about the card. Did you draw the building? You have so much detail in the picture. Is it ink with colored pencil? Thank you again.  Your work is beautiful.

Hi Donna, I am sorry for my slow response. I am very shy when it comes down to my artwork. I will join in as my confidence increases.  Rest assured it feels good to be a part of such a diversified group of artists.  I will be here and will share my art eventually.  Happy creating!
