I have worked with just about every subject imaginable from buffalos to ballerinas and cowboys to cobras. My work appears in private collections around the United States as well as in South America, Australia, New Zealand and several European countries.
I teach drawing classes and conduct workshops and seminars. I am also working on a book...THE ART OF PENCIL.
My prints are produced one at a time on a variety of surfaces so that I have complete control of the quality.
Many have said that I ought to specialize in wildlife, Native American, western,..whatever. There's one reason why I never have. I GET BORED. I also concluded several years ago that one of the best ways to make myself a better artist is to do something different in each drawing...even if it's only part of the drawing. For example, when I started the buffalo, I had never done thick hair like that on the buffalo's shoulders. And that's what I encourage my students to do. Don't be afraid of anything. It may not come out right to begin with, but if you stick with it you will get there. And In the end you will be a better artist

WOW! Mr. Harvey...I am speechless as to the talent you have within you. I cannot say how flattered I am that you left a comment on one of my designs. I guess I need to get my pencils out more often. I so admire other folks realistic drawings...still it is not my goal. I wonder what it says about me, that I prefer to do my own abstract designs like the Mardi Gra pencil drawing you commented on. I suspect it has alot to do with fear...no-one can tell me it isn't 'right' if it lives only in my imagination.
Thank u a lot Richard for your kind suggestions. I would definitely consider them.
Bye!!
Richard, Sourav here. Sorry to disturb u, but can u please check out my new painting "Trek" on my page and give your opinion on it? With a art-teacher's background, u might provide true insight into the composition & colors of the painting. And finally, do u think that the sky needs some clouds?
Would love to hear from u.
Bye!!!
Morning Richard, I have just viewed your gallery. They are fabulous. If i attain to this level of talent I'll be very very pleased.
thanks for becoming my friend Richard and thanks for the advice on moving my artwork to the top of my page. It really does look better.
Thank you Richard for appreciating my art.......I just came across your suggestions and it was an interesting read....I too believe strongly in learning to draw well realistically before attempting other styles of art.......leraning to draw is learning to see .....it is as simple as that....my art is abstract but it is based on traditional principles of drawing skills......your work is amazing too....thanks once again....Archana
I so much wish I could learn from you!!
Richard, I am really grateful for your suggestions. Your inputs about my handling of trees are well appreciated. So far as your concerns about me painting or drawing famous people and trying to sell them, I never intended to sell them. They r just for my pleasure and I uploaded here for u guys to see and comment on them. But I am really pleased that u warned me, it's something which I would certainly keep in mind.
As for finding interesting people to draw or paint, u might like "Garwal Lass" on my page. Sadly the drawing was badly damaged as the paper did not take kindly to the fixative.
Many Many Thanks Again!!! Bye!!!
