A bad BAD word

Hi all.

It has been a while since I last posted anything.

I have had a new very bad word added to my vocabulary

This is even worse than Dratt, botherations and dang.

Ouch comes close though

Such is life in the slow lane. However:-

In the words of Terry Pratchett's Granny Weatherwax, "I ain't ded yet."

Glad to see you haven't archived me yet.

To frame or not to frame? That is THE question.

I took the day off to do artsy things. Brought one 24" x 24" and two 18" x 18" pieces to my framing guy. Left later with a bill for $423 on delivery. Ouch!!!!

For my little restaurant/gallery shows, I have showed my paintings unframed, but with finished sides. However, I have a rather large show coming up the end of the summer/early fall at a much more affluent venue and I think I am going to bite the bullet and show all pieces framed--no matter what the hit to my bank…

Hello friends.  It is sunny today! yeah.  After 80s last week it is currently 40 degrees.  But seems to be getting better! Getting out some of the plants.  We have banana trees and other tropical plants that we do in out yard in the summer.  We try to put in out little tropical oasis in nky.  People are surprised.  We put them around our gazebo. My week

I have gotten a very nice compliment from my grandfather about my art work he said I am really good at my art and don't give up on it. There were 2 people at church that asked me when they would see my art and I told them I would bring some in. Anyways, I was wondering if there was a website that holds all of the art competitions that would be in the local area. I was also wondering where a good place to create a website to post all my art work and tell a little…

Blue - Adventures in Abstract Art

I have to share what my husband said about this one called "Blue" in my very limited artwork portfolio.

Help, I don't know how to put an image in a blog post, or if that's possible.

Anyway, the critique was,

"If you paint a white oval around it, it would look just like a toilet flushing."

And then after my face dropped, and I'm sure he was seeing the "enjoy the couch" look in my eyes, he continued...

"Wait, I mean that in a good way - a really clean… READ MORE

My Soap Box

Hello all!

Well, I am about to get back on my soapbox so hold on for the ride!

I am discussing people who steal art. I am not talking about copying it and making it your own. That's weird, but it is how you learn. I am talking about people who STRAIGHT up steal your art work. Like, going on a website, saving it to your computer and slapping a watermark on it.…

My first blog - Ever

I wanted to have as my first blog how I got back into my art and to show my first piece. When I posted the painting I added this :

By chance I met an artist in a doctor's office and mentioned that I "Used to paint a long time ago. He said something to me that haunted me and got me started back into my art. He said,"Get a piece of paper, a board, a wall, ANYTHING and slap some paint on it, then go to town!"

One day I did it! I found an old used canvas at a second hand store that…

As of right now, I feel bad about my art. I feel as if it is boring and doesn't stand out. Art is meant to push buttons. Mine art is just like eh, there's a button, I'm going to go bake a cake. I feel like ANARCHY today. I know my art is trying to be someone I am not. It is trying to please others and that is just not right. It is time to flourish! My art is happy and colorful. Or portraiture. Don't get me wrong, portraits are great. I am just ready to get my Pollock on, or My Rothko. I am…

Art is fun, and scary

I'm a newbie here at the Art Colony. Thank you for the opportunity to join in.

Today I had a very long day at the computer, and was ready to call it quits when I stumbled on the Art is Fun site. So cool! I read through several of the painting tutorials and can't wait to try out what I've leaned. Thank you Thaneeya!

I have always thought of myself as an artist at heart, but have told people that I haven't found my medium yet. I know so many people who are "real…

Bad Artist Feels :(

I know every single one of us have it. Doubt. But I am here to tell you go on with yo bad self! Vincent Van Gogh Said "If you hear a voice within you saying you are not a painter; then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced." Pretty cool, huh? So Yes you are an artist, and who cares if everyone says your work sucks, you like it, it's your vision, Who are "They" to judge anyways? We NEED more artists in the world! We need to make the world a more beautiful place. But don't be like…

Spring is here?

Birthday party was a great success!  Thanks for all the great posts!  I now move on to another project.  I have been asked by my sons librarian to work on some pics for a author visit they are having at his school.. I have tried to find a roll of butcher paper, but can find no one to buy it from.  So Ill just be using some fairly large art paper from a pad I had previously purchased.  I guess they will have to be big enough.  I am going to try in use a project I pinned on pinterest for…

I scored a free air brush!

At dinner last night I met a pro car racer who knows lots of my racing friends. He used to air brush cars, but hasn't in 15 yr.. He offered me his air brush gratis. Did I take the offer? Am I stupid? Of course, I did! So....Liz Letourneau.....watch this space for some air brushing effects. LOL.

Viewing art galleries

So this last week we went to a small town and saw a few local type artists. I had a painting in mind that I have been wanting to do that had splatters of all sorts of colors all over the board. I had not had a chance to do it as I have been extremely busy with a few projects both professional and personal. So to my surprise I am at this gallery and I see the image I had in my mind that I was going to attempt! I would have purchased it as this artist had the exact same idea as I did but the…

Painting on dry leaf.

I started painting on wood with acrylics. I adore painting on wooden objects. I tried one stroke painting, I learn it from Donna Dewberry OS art, quite enjoy it. Currently I try painting on dry leaf ( for instance on leaves of chinese ficus). The same time  I love painting oriental miniatures with gouache. İt's very special technique, asks lot of learning, very difficult to find books of this technique. İ şive on Mediterranean sea beach and adore collecting sea shells. İ paint…
