After about 15 years, I’m returning to actively creating Art (instead of just passively sketching at my desk when things are slow at the office). Back in the day, I took classes in drawing, acrylic, watercolor, oils, ceramics, sculpture, silk-screening and batik. I loved every minute, but clearly abstract oil paintings and face drawings were my better pieces.
I suppose the majority of the Art I like would fall into the Modern, Abstract, Pop, Pulp, Pinup or Whimsy genres. However, I…READ MORE

Ok, so i just have to say a few words here. LOL. I was in a class tonight (the hummingbird painting in acrylic) and there was a few people having a little troubles. I leaned over and "suggested and showed" them brush strokes and the instructor said to me ( last class i had with her was back in Jan) " christina, you have really come a long way from jan to now, its like from a 1 to a 10" If i could i could of plummed out my feathers like a peacock im sure i would of. There are different way to approach painting.
One of the most exciting for me is when I start a painting without having any idea, except maybe the colors I want to use. I just scratch and paint and somehow a background appears or a motive. Then I let it dry and when I get back to it, this is when I do some soulsearching. I connect with my painting mentally and let it tell me what is next.
It teaches me to rely on my subconciousness, because often I don't believe anything will…READ MORE

I have started working in a private school this year. Its as a teachers aid, learning support assistant, teacher's assistant... It is with high school kids. It is mainly assisting kids with special needs whilst they are in class room...
In the class room whilst waiting for the teacher's to finish saying what needs to be said to the class (which could be up to half hour or more) I have started sketching either a boy (its a boys school), on my note book or it could even be the…READ MORE

Well it is time I started my blog. I really don't know what to say but I will start by saying I love painting. I just started drawing about a year ago.......then painting a few months ago! However when I was young I did draw a lot....messing around I called it. But when I was fourteen I did Draw the Pirate contest in a magazine and did win a scholarship but was too young to collect it as well it was from the States somewhere. Don't remember the details but I stopped drawing right after that…READ MORE
Hi Everyone! I am new to this site and I have never blogged before. This will be the first one. How exciting!
I have been painting and drawing since I can remember. I have always wanted to be an artist and was always told that it can be just a hobby. The last few years it has been on the side because I had two wonderful children. Which now they are in school full time education and it has given me some freedom to do my art. Which I am loving because it is almost on a daily basis. I…READ MORE
I need to really scream, to let it all out, no holding back, just let them have it....
I'm going to paint my scream today. It may turn out ugly or beautiful who knows but sound waves are going to take shape on a canvas today showing others my pain...

There are just such nice folks on here; I am so glad to be a part of such a nice community!!! So my worries of getting made fun of are gone and I am a very happy girl today!! I have done an Acryclic water drip painting and I LOVED IT! It was fun and it turned out good. I was wondering if that technique was like copyrighted or anything like that? Or is it a style of any one artist? Thanks!

I was re-inspired by a review of my poetry by someone oddly enough. I realized to create something beautiful every time isn't going to happen, but the one time it does is worth it all! I've been studying (meanwhile) as Ev suggested, soaking up everything I could find on anything having to do with acrylics and mixed media. I like the idea of working with acrylics and ink. Unfortunately I haven't the space to do this, nor do I have the funds. I will keep on working with what I can afford and…READ MORE
I have been busy today making my second book-mark and I got it down, yay!!! I am going to have my son help me up-load a picture of it as soon as he gets back home, might not be for a day or two tho. I am still trying to get my garden all planted too (gotta plant my tomatoes, sweet corn, carrots & celeriac yet). I planted a lot of flowers/plants for my book-marks and I am hoping to make greeting cards, place-mats, etc. too.

I see a lot of fine, fine artists on here saying they are not good enough and they may as well quit! When I came to this site I was feeling the same way.
Then, I got up the courage, after encouragement from friends on here to show my 'artwork.' Well was I shocked! I got comments I wasn't expecting. They told me my work was great! They encouraged me and liked it. So..I'm not so down on myself now. They really boosted my confidence. I feel so terribly sad when I see an artist who feels…
It is May 13, 2012 and is Mother's Day today & my very first blog ever!!! I just joined this really cool site (The Art Colony) today too. I have been looking at other people's art-work and I am thinking "WOW, if only I was that talented!!!" But, alas, I am just a so-so artist. That is okay tho, cause I really enjoy doing it and I think that is the main thing!! I have not posted any of my art on here yet because # 1 I do not know how to & # 2 I have not done anything good enough to…READ MORE

Ok........so this maybe the beginning of a problem (lollz). My next ambitious project invloves another water scene. However, I am going to attempt 'glazing' with water. I tried it once but I did not truly grasp the concept but I just read some stuff from http://www.williampowell-artist.com/paintingexerciseintro.html. His tips seem pretty easy and straight forward. So I am going to attempt the art of…READ MORE

Finally time to sit down and focus on my art. Busy day at work...school teacher...looking forward to summer so I can paint, paint and did I mention paint? I'm working on a series that focuses on women of the Bible. 7 paintings in all, more abstract, plan on including lots of texture and symbolism. All of the women will have some connection to each other and span from the Old Testament to the New. Cleaned out the studio last weekend and found lots of cool stuff to use for the…READ MORE
I experimented with a self protrait on cold press paper and I was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the acrylic worked with the paper. I did not have to create too many shades to do the tones. One shade layered on did a superb job. I believe I am in love with the combo.
I even tested the pairing by doing another self-portrait of a ritual and even that came out really good. I think Im going to venture out and start working with acrylic on 11 x 16 140lb Cold Press paper. I…READ MORE

I love doing what I do but seriously I'm ot really good enough. I am an overly optimistic person. I therefore think well of what i do and think I can sell what i make. I thinkI've proven on here that i'm just not good enough. I might as well quit.
There are a few techniques you can use when doing a shaded Pen & Ink drawing. The five techniques include; hatching, cross hatching, contoured hatching, scumbling and stippling.
The one I use the most is STIPPLING.
First let’s look at this pointillism process. Stippling is a creation of a pattern simulating varying degrees of shading by using small dots or patterns. It is a random placement of dots solidifying dark and light to create an…READ MORE
Getting ready to put paint on the canvas that I've sketched Charlie on. Really striving to create something different. Hope I don't flub it up.
