Dyeing Naturally

Today I visited a friend and we did some natural dyeing using eucalyptus leaves and red cabbage with wool, silk and cotton (dipped in soy milk) material.  It was such fun and we have to wait to see the results.  I also did some embroidery on a dyed gumleaf piece my friend had created, I love embroidery and have not stitched for ages.

As an inspiring artist I can directly relate with Pablo Picasso who stated, “ The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place; from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider web.”

I've been busy

I've been out of work for about 2 months now due to health issues. I ant do too much but can't sleep either because the Doctor put me on steroids.  So this week I actually have two portraits in the works.  Still trying to make lemonade out of lemons. I spend a lot of time doing research as well on how to make your own web site, Doing portraits as a business, and how to get your name and work out there in the Art World.  Sleep would be nice too though....

These are the two portraits…

Art is great, so is sleep!

I have been out of work for about 2 months now due to health problems.  The doctor has me on steroids so not much sleep for me.  Keeping busy researching how to design a website, How to start your own art business, and How to get your work known.

Since I'm up anyway, I'm working on 2 portraits at a time.

These are what I'm working on now…

It is Thursday and that means mandala class for 3 hours this morning which is such a highlight or my week, hooray.  I am presently working on a vibrant and whimsical one which I began last week, something new for me.  I am finding myself using a lot of orange in my mandalas recently, I wonder what that means?  It is 8.30am on Thursday 30th May here in Glen Waverley, Victoria, Australia.  Better go and get ready or I will be late to class, lol.

Artist Trading Club on Facebook

I was wondering if I am the only guy who enjoys ATCs and Swap Art here on TAC? What do you say?

Anyway since I love to keep myself busy, and interacting with others, I joined a Facebook group: Artist Trading Card Club:

Was thinking of not uploading a sample of the ones I did here on TAC, but make some new ATCs (when I have some free time) just for that group!…

County Fair

Well, I'm a bit disappointed in myself this year. The county fair took art entries today and I only had 3 drawings ready. I've just been too busy this year. Anyone else having similar problems this year?

About me

I live in Cowra, New South Wales, Australia. A small town in a rural region of the state.

I have been doing artwork of some kind for most of my life. I have, basically, tried every type of art....contantly looking for the medium I really liked. Drawing has always been the foundation of all of my art. I evenually started doing a lot of oil paintings and loved the medium. As a sideline hobby/art, I took up doing leatherwork in the 1970's. I did a lot of pictorial leather art carvings…

Friends who share the same interests in art.

Had a lovely day today catching up with 2 friends who share the same interest in art and craft and who I met when doing my Diploma in Transpersonal  Art Therapy in 2007-2008.  They both love to dabble in lots of different mediums.  One loves mandalas like I do and the other one is into painting and sculpture.  No work done cleaning and tidying my studio.  It is 8pm on Sunday 26th May 2013, Aussie time.

I am an Art Therapist and work casually for organisations who have funding to run workshops for carer's who look after someone with a disability/mental illness /aged/ dementia/etc.  At the moment work is non-existent and I have time to do my own art but I am not using it well.  It is so great to have a space to write this down, thanks Art Colony.

Vincent Van Gogh

Where to begin, where to begin.

"A Starry NIght" makes my stomach hurt. It is so gut-wrenching beautiful, that I get a little choked up every time I see it.I wish I could go back, just to give Mr. Van Gogh a hug. I love him, his work, and his personality. I got a book for my second anniversary with my boyfriend. It was Van Gogh's letters. I ate them up. I can relate on so many levels with him. He just overwhelms me. People ask "Who is your favorite…

Different directions...

Does anyone else's mind often go to places they wouldn't normally go? I was sitting here and had a strong urge to draw something in my sketchbook   I ended up drawing something I would never normally draw, and now I have a strong urge to paint it as a watercolor ...even though I have only ever used acrylics.

I do have a set of pastel color watercolor tubes sitting there (accidentally bought them one time thinking they were acrylics), so I guess I could give it a go....
