Colorful and Detailed Abstract Art

I'm a huge fan of colorful & detailed abstract art, so I thought it would be fun to create a blog post that showcases some of the colorful & detailed abstract art on the Art Colony!  Each of the images in this post link back to the artist's portfolio so that you can see more of their work.

I'll start off with one of my own paintings, which you can see below.  This is an 8 x 8 inch acrylic painting on canvas. The title is…

The Devil is in The Details

I thought I got over my perfectionist issues.  I am generally more of a 'Big Picture' sort of person.  The details usually sort themselves out while I keep my eye on the bigger perspective of life.  Especially as you never know how things are going to get done, anything could happen.

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be the case for me as far as my drawing and painting is concerned.  The weird thing is, I like working on the details!  However, I need to learn my limits.

I need sevral hours by myself to even get started on a painting, so I'm thinking to start working with colored pencils, for now.

How Do You Begin a Work of Art?

IMG_0537 I captured this gorgeous “Chicken of the Woods” mushroom walking through one of my favorite state parks last weekend. It would have been really tough to sketch this in the moment. For one thing, it was raining! For another, the mosquitoes were really bad!…

One Sassy Cat Comin' Up!

I was inspired to draw this Sassy Cat with gorgeous, flowing hair when I shampooed my hair this weekend

In hindsight, her hair looks detached so I will add bangs. Right now it looks like her head is on fire!

I am thinking of placing a background before "painting" with colored pencils. I am open to suggestions as to what the…

To-Do List

Hello fellow artists!

I am excited about being a part of this community of talented artists. As of now, I do not have any art to post but will begin creating this weekend. Maybe by this time next week I will have something to upload to my portfolio.

The style that I enjoy most is whimsical. Watercolors are great but I think I will focus more on colored pencil...that is, once I master it!

Hope you all have a great weekend! Until next…

Mix-Media: Working with metals

This is a work of art that I made last fall.  You can also find it on my blog.  I`m all about technique and meaning, and this is what I will discuss here.  I really enjoyed trying these new techniques: embossing metal, hand carving in metal, adding metal elements to canvas, using metallic felts and shaping metal wire.  It was full of new discoveries. This is a semi-abstract painting about a forest.  And its all about exploring texture in metal.

The Decorative Paintbrush

I've had a love affair with color all my life! As far back as I can remember actually, I've been coloring. Whether it's been coloring in books, or on paper, over the walls and now on furniture, color never stops exciting me! Different color combinations, funky patterns, bold designs, color is like a drug.

In 2003, my partner and I started a decorating/painting/wallpapering company called 2 Women and a…
