Finally some art

I know, I know, I have been MIA. Things have gotten busy, but I finally forced some time to play with my oils. I used the last canvas I had and so now I am in search of new ones. Normally I go to the Blick outlet and buy the ones that have slight damage as I never really expect or plan to sell a piece, but I am wondering what it would be like to paint on rolled canvas and just frame it as I would a normal picture-minus the glass. I just do not know how my H frame easel would handle that sort…

So I have my shiny new pencils, ready to go, and....nothing.  I cannot think of a single thing to draw.  I think I'm being so conscious of not wanting to copy others work and finding my own unique style that it's stopping me from just letting go and drawing/painting whatever.

I see so many artists with a style that makes you instantly know a piece of art is theirs, and I would love to be one of them.  But I don't know what my style is.  I don't know who I am in an art sense.  And…

You learn something new with every canvas.  Every single one.

All colors go together.  Some just go together a whole lot better than…

My brand new set of Prismacolor pencils arrived today.  Cannot wait to try them out.

I also had a pretty productive day with my paintings too.  Feeling much better about things after a week of self-doubt and anxiety.

A few bumps in life

Hello Vincent,

It's been a few days since I came to talk to you.   The hard drive with all the work, all the learning died.  I know if you were alive now you would have done the same thing with your work that most artists out there have done, take pictures and store them on a computer.  I could also see you taking your work and doing the same thing I've done with mine, use it to create new…

Take time to smell the roses

As a newbie here in the Art Colonly, I cannot express how inspired all of you make me feel.  I cannot wait to start painting again.  I allowed myself to get into a slump, depression, blues, whatever you would like to call it and i stopped painting.

Now that silliness is over...so if any of you are having the same problem...snap out of it.  There can never be enough art to go around.

63 and living strong...now its time to paint!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every Expression Has Value

"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action;  and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique.  If you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost.  The world will not have it.  You must keep that channel open.  It is not for you to determine how good it is, nor how valuable.  Nor how it compares with other expressions.  It is for you to keep it yours. clearly and…

Had lots of fun painting this little fellow. I'm not finished with him and to tell you the truth sha he looks much brighter in person. Sometimes the pic do not do much for the painting.

Going to add more to him today. Was thinking about putting him a lady friend but no room. Nothing like jazz to start your birthday off…

Art Walk

I fooled myself into thinking there is enough time to paint before the Art Walk. Well here to tell you it gets away from you. I'm so addicted to the swaps and dolls I'm crazy but filled with joy and love. However I need to do my work for the up coming Walk. This little town only has one a year and last years the hurricane shut us down. The exciting part is I will get to be in the store on Main Street I want to be in. Last year they put me with a man that was so nuts I was scared. He was way…

Art: More Praise Cards part 1

I made many more “praise cards”. I actually use them to praise God. I put them inside a photo album that holds over 100  4×6 photos. I flip through the pages and read the praise verses out loud to God in my morning devotional time. I like reading the scriptures off of the colored index cards much better than just a 9×11 typed sheet of paper, which is what I was using before.

Simply made from ordinary 4×6 index cards. Cheap.…

Second entry

Hello Vincent.

It's been a couple of days since I talked to you last.  I'm struggling with the paintings.  Purple is not so inviting to dance with and it doesn't make sense since I love all color.  You know this about me.  I wish it were like blue or green, then it would be easy,  But growth isn't ever about easy is it.   I know I'm meant to keep growing as long as I'm on the planet.  Save the vacation when it's time to leave this body.  In the mean time....one of my favorite anchors…

Need a push..

I am not proud to say that I have not added anything to my artwork since a long time. I just can't seem to get back to my canvas and there really is no reason. May be the holiday I had recently is the reason. I am hanging on to Leh Ladakh. But at the same time I miss painting. I really do. Probably writing this blog will help.

Project of the week - For Fathers Day

This week I am working on this portrait of my husband's father who I never met.  Unfortunately he passed away one year before I met my husband.  This is how he remembers him, white tee shirt and a cap sitting by the kitchen table.  I usually don't work from a small group photo, but that is all he had.  This will be framed and given to my husband for Father's Day.  I will be making prints for the rest of the family that…

festival of fine arts of the highlands/ Festival de Bellas artes de tierras altas

I am founder of this festival going on 5 years next april and I would very much like to try something new for that one and that is to have a real competition.  Does anybody have any advice on  how to set one up?  I would so appreciate it.  By the way this festival is international and we are moving to make it a spot on the map.  Everyone is welcome if they feel the need to come down to the mountain tropical rainforests of Panama!   LDEBRD@hotmail.com    Linda

First entry June 10, 2013

Good morning blog.  I need a new name for you.   Since this is an art colony I need a good name for you, one that means unfearful art explorer......I think I'll name you Vincent after my beloved art teacher Vincent Van Gogh.   That still make me smile with amazement that his work, him in his work was one of my best art teachers.     The other ones I had before him in high school and the one year of college I went to didn't hold a candle to Vincent Van Gogh!

So I'm naming you…

Today my world is filled with water. It is raining so much down here my yard has become one big swimming pool. I do not mind because I would never want to be any place else on this planet, well maybe a short visit somewhere but my bayous and swampland are my home. I signed up for the Birthday swap and this rain gave me the different ATCs I am going to do. All is well in my world.
