I am so excited about being a member of Art Colony...I viewed the site one time and became completely hooked, by the art work, comments and groups.
I am an artist/studio instructor and a Public School art teacher!!!! Most of all I live to create art. Collage is my favorite media, I also create/enjoy altered books, Mural paintings, and textiles.
Happy Creating Everyone!!!!!

So, stumbled on a thread where the author asked how one goes about to choose a subject: wheather by visual appeal, meaning, etc.
I thought about this and after a day of examining my working process, I came up with these hereunder (this is my personal opinion):
"How to choose subjects is a tricky question; personally it is very difficult to choose just one subject, since most of the time, I end up tackling different projects at the same time.

Ok,so Hi it's Marianne. I am one frustrated person about my art. My penils and brushes and oil pastels have barely moved in months. I have almost done anything all year. Everday I want to use my oil pastels and design compositions in my head all day,yet I do nothing.. There all my supplies are piled in the corner of my living room ,teetering almost up to the ceiling They are supposed to be organized all neat and tidy in the cabinet below, however the supplies keep getting bigger than the…

I am looking for instructional painting video by Leroy Neiman or painting instruction in the loose painting style like Leroy Neiman's painting style. I have contacted Neiman website. No videos. Any ideas?

So I saw a few tutorials on Youtube last night of hand painted canvas shoes, and I really want to give that a try. I think it would be fun to make my own unique pair of shoes to wear.
Than I got to thinking about what other things could be painted....sure, there's stuff like t-shirts, cushion covers. But what about things like phone cases? So now I'm sitting here thinking how that could be done.
My brain is so hard to control sometimes.

It has been raining here every day for almost two weeks now. I am not complaining because it keep our heart down in the lower 90s. My yard is now a sponge but I just went out and walked in it up over my feet. Guess that is why people say we have webbed feet. Anyway, it is a good time to stay in and do art. Still working on my hippie/flower power. Even went out and bought me some wide leg jeans. Now I'm going to cut them and add a very large tri angel to each side just like we did in…

So I sold my first custom piece. Took me just over a week to get it done (the weather was not cooperating for me to be painting out in my shed, so I had to drag all the items inside). The customer was really happy with it which is great.
Also created a piece that will be used in an exhibition/silent with the proceeds going towards mental health. That was a lot of fun to do, and also something I am passionate about (I suffer from anxiety, depression and recently some bad cases of…

I am a 29 year old woman from a small town in California. I have always loved art (painting specifically), but didn’t have much time for it a midst a busy work schedule and my social life. I would create maybe 4-5 paintings a year and I was moderately happy with them, but really didn’t paint as often as I would like to or have the time to develop my talent like I should. I had a pretty great job with decent pay, full benefits, 401k, you name it. I had been there for 5 years and it…

OK. I said I was going to do it and I finally am. I got out some watercolor paper today and made my daily pot of coffee. I took yesterday's grinds and sprinkled them on a piece of the paper to get it started. I'm going to spend the next few days working on painting with coffee. Anyone want to join me so we can bounce some ideas off each other? If you've already tried this and have some tips please feel free to share them with me. I would hate to waste a good pot of coffee =)

Hi all! I have a confession to make... I'm addicted to painting itty bitty repetitive designs like the one I posted entitled tiny hearts. I honestly am never happier than when I'm sitting drawing & painting these cute little motifs & listening to something on TV. Problem is... when I'm done with one of these cute little pieces, what do I do with them? They aren't great works of art, they aren't…

It is hard to pick one thing or even 2 to draw and paint for this. I love the whole 60s 70s. Ok I asked if I should go Cajun well you know I'm going too at least one on ATC cannot help myself.
If you smoked marijuana or not the fashion of bell bottoms, tie dye and flowers were every where and I loved it. The bright colors has always given me much joy and energy. So I say pull out the tie dye and enjoy life!!!

Got to my office building this a.m. and there were hundreds of people—and six police cars— outside.
“Fire alarm?” I asked one waiting person.
“Apparently some suspicious character has entered our building,” she said. She’d been waiting five minutes. After another ten minutes, the police let us in the building and I took the elevator up to the 10th floor. My co-worker was already there. She hadn’t heard about the excitement.
I had just finished recounting the story when…

So I actually got my first custom order yesterday, which is fun and exciting. Someone wants me to paint up a canvas that promotes their business, and they will be displaying it at markets and things and helping me get more customers too.
And then today my facebook page for my art work reached 101 likes. Not bad for only being up for just under 3 months. This is a really good confidence booster for me, as the last few days that black hole of depression has been looming again and I…
