Barn Painting

Sighing...This one is a struggle. I love to paint rivers but I can't get this one right... I am so tempted to get out the turpentine and take the river out. Pondering

Hi guys, I'm new :)
So in my art supplies, I have a watercolor set and a bunch of colored pencils and some markers, crayons (you know, the usual school supplies)
I'm not that good at watercolor, so any tips would be appreciated :D
I really prefer colored pencil and I will upload my works later

Getting Started

I am relatively new to to painting.Just over a year ago I got hooked on watching a PBS program on watercolor painting. They kept saying anyone could learn to paint.Since I classify as an anyone I decided to take the plunge. Little did I realize how deep the water was! I have been making  good strides in this quest.I am having a lot of fun and it is slowly teaching me patience. I am hoping that this forum will be a good resource for proper techniques, questions on what works or doesn't.I am…

Get rid of fear

I need to get rid of my fear surrounding my art.  I am so scared of being labelled a copycat, or having copyright issues, or not having my own style that it's stopping me from just creating.

I need to paint/draw/create for myself.  Who cares if it looks similar to something I found on Pinterest the other night?  At least I had fun making it!  Besides, isn't that how all the best artists learn?

I also need to stop being afraid of making things not realistic.  I keep telling…

Today I am getting ready to leave on vacation in Ontario. We are going to a family wedding and are staying for two weeks. I thought I would miss painting while I was gone but I decided to load my paraphernalia in my truck and for a good reason. When I was growing up my younger sister used to draw and paint but dropped it as I did because life took over. Something neither of us should have done but we can't help the choices we made when we were younger so I will move along. Anyway she has…

Putting a name with the face...

Some people may think I'm crazy, but when I am working on a new piece, after a few days I am on a first name basis...

I suppose waking up and spending the day with the "people" in my studio would seem boring to some, but when I am working out the lines, features and emotions of people at some point, they become real to me.

They have to.

Otherwise, what is the point?

What is the point of creating so much emotion, detail and love into a piece if…

Art Hop Show

In Fresno, California (a city close to where I live) the local Arts Council started doing something called Art Hop.  It's the first Thursday of every month and hundreds of businesses open up their locations for artists of all sorts to come in and show their work.  Not only galleries, but thirft stores, book stores, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, retail stores, you name it allow artists to showcase their pieces.  Well, last night I had an Art Hop Show at a local brewing company and it went…
