Curious to know if anyone has tried this technique. Seen it done on youtube by an artist named Wyanne. Was wondering about the difficulty level. Also has anyone done any gel transfers on their artwork? Any tips for doing them efficiently and successfully on acrylic paintings?
I've been working on this colored pencil painting off and on for over a year and it was mostly off for the last six months. For some reason, I picked it up a few weeks ago and am now determined to finish it. When I stopped working on it, I remember being fearful that I would ruin the piece when I started putting the details into the lighthouse. I also had no clue how to go about rendering the stonework. In short, I was suffering from a lack of confidence and I think I needed to wait…READ MORE
i get so frustrated trying to find the time to create art.
life is fairly busy but, it is for everyone right? some, more than others. i see these people posting on their blogs and they have a full-time job and 6 kids and they're busy at church, blah, blah, blah. BUT. they still have time to homeschool, be the perfect wife, always have a cheerful attitude AND write 4 books, teach 7 online classes, run an etsy store (and create the products in it), guest post on 65 creative blogs AND…READ MORE
A dear friend (our own dear Meg) recently shared a concept with me that has really stuck in my heart and mind and is changing my life. So, I thought I would share it with you in hopes that it would help you as it has me. She said that our unhappiness with things in our life does not result from what those things are, but from what we want them to be. In other words, it's not how something turns out that is the cause of our disappointment, but rather our expectations of how we wanted it…READ MORE

Pastel on Anthracite PastelMat
This is my first post, so I posted one of my most recent pastels. I love pastels and oil pastels. I'm also going through a growth spurt right now where almost every day I do something I never did before and always wanted to be able to do. I'm on this headlong rush into my life…READ MORE
i have been invited to exhibit my work in a monthly art "festival" that takes place in the colonial area. i am uber excited about this because i have never shown my work "publicly" and for a stranger to see it and ask me to participate is a validation of sorts that im actually an artist. i have never considered myself a real artist, im just a woman who likes to paint. i struggle with feelings of self-importance versus humility when i assign myself the title of "artist" or…READ MORE

Hi to all. A few months back I shared that I had submitted 3 of my abstract paintings for an art exhibit here in AZ. Well, 1 of them was accepted for the exhibit. The show will be on Nov 4. I am just a little excited about this. Thanks to every one that has given me support with my paintings. I will let you know how it goes.

My name is Marsha and I am the owner of Pandula Arts Creations. I have been heavily involved in the fiber arts for around 15 yrs. Anything from rug hooking to backstrap weaving. I truly believe that all art can be as complicated, or un-complicated, as expensive, or as inexpensive as you want it to be to satisfy your creativity!
Unfortunately I am stalled creatively with my weaving of late, and my pencils have been calling me. I am certain much more accomplished with my…READ MORE
For my artist friends who are also avid readers, please check out "Provenance: How a Con Man and a Forger Rewrote the History of Modern Art" by Laney Salisbury and Aly Sujo. Based on a true story set in England during the mid80s through 90s. Great read definitely!

I stretched a large canvas the other day and then once gessoed up spent an hour just staring at it, its the inspiration thing again, the feeling of going round and round in circles not knowing where you want to head..... but the fun thing is after staring at the canvas for such a long time the idea comes and you thrash about splashing paint on in controlled and sometimes uncontrolled manner.
And if you dont like it just paint over it and start again I can do this several times until…READ MORE
Sometimes, after I'm checking my emails or just feeling generally stressed from the normal chaos that is "life"...I stop by The Art Colony and check in just to see what's new.
As soon as I click on the gallery page to peek and see what newborn creations pop up there or even enter the group to check out the main page, there is s certain peacefulness that washes over me and resides here.
Maybe it is the non-judgemental atmosphere of so many creative and accepting minds…READ MORE
I want more weeks like last week! Forget that I drove home from Rhode Island at 3 a.m. , arriving home running on mental fumes. Forget that I arrived home with a tummy bug that sidelined me for three days. Nope, what I'll remember about last week was that I was offered the definite dates for a small "exhibition" and a friend of my daughter's commissioned me to do a larger painting similar to a baby one I posted on Facebook.
The show, which up till then, was tentatively set…READ MORE
Most often when I visit the Gallery here at The Art Colony, instinctively I push the "latest" or "most popular" bar to see what's going on, but the "Random" button is where the real fun is.
So many lovely things are sorted to the bottom of the feed because they are older or lost in the shuffle and by clicking "random' you'll be treated to a wonderful variety of work. Some you've seen before and some you haven't and it's fun to find your own gallery additions on the pages. I've even…READ MORE
