Hello all--
I recently became a member of iTunes and right away I discovered the wonder and coolness of 'Podcasts,' which are free. I found thru lots of searching and exploring, a podcast called, "Art Cast," by Chris Oatley. Please understand, I'm not endorsing iTunes or their products, but I have subscribed to some podcasts that I have found very useful and informative, and if nothing else, gets me thinking. Lots of food for thought,…

I'm Naomi and I'm an aspiring artist.. I'm 14 years old and I have been drawing as long as I can remember but I never really got serious about it until 2009 (I was about 12 years old then). I love drawing portraits and my favorite art medium is Colored Pencils.
I hope to be a Better Artist someday and I'm really working hard to achieve it

So Yay! My very last semester in High School then on to live in Nashville with my beautiful man :). I am terrified. I have no money, I have to go to college on my own, do it by myself. What if I can't do it? Then theres my art. How will I be able to keep it up if I am working and going to school? I have to launch my website soon, which I have no idea what to do. I can feel my throat closing up because i am so scared. But, I know 100% that I have to go to Nashville, for my art, to be…

Abstract Painting is so much fun, but now I decided I also need to learn drawing better.
I enjoyed doing the portrait very much, although it is not great and you can clearly see I have no clue about proportions :-). But I like how it reflects my thoughts about a person and I think with more skills it can only be better.
Also I have the desire to paint something more realistic now and then, even when it is still abstract.
I think people are right when they say drawing is…

Finished this commission last night and thought I would share it in two parts. I received six photos and some idea of what they wanted. The two dogs on the ground were looking up at Thanksgiving turkey about to be served in the photo I used and the two dogs in the ovals are faithful companions they recently lost. I decided to use the ovals as I have seen in old art work. The…

The Sarasota Chalk Festival included not only chalk art, but also graffiti, murals and live performances! Since there was so much art to see in the weeklong event, I've divided my blog coverage into 3 parts:

At bottom are two details from my collage: "Reflection on Room 101 in Ward D" which is posted in its complete form in my portfolio.
I made this large collage (or at least an early version of it) in a psychiatric hospital this past summer, one where they do not employ such instruments of torture as 4-point restraints, seen here on the bed.…

I'm really glad that I happened to stumble across this website! Unfortunately I am already a part of a blog so it would seem a little redundant to post the same thing twice in 2 different areas. I would enjoy having you all read the strangeness that comes as a part of my creative process so please come and visit me over at my blog!

Are you “creative” in other areas besides art?
I know we all draw, paint or crayon, but does that creativity carry over into your non-art life? And are you more likely to accept credit for that kind of creativity? And more likely to doubt your abilities as a painter/sketcher?
People say that even my thrown-together dinners look like works of art because I always balance the food colours on the plate! Is that creativity or OCD? LOL. Here’s a sample of my work, in this case, a…

I leave a work of art I am currently developing on a portable drawing board leaned up against the wall in my kitchen. Next to this is a bin of colored pencils, oil pastels, sketching paper, blending stumps, pieces of old cotton shirts and a sheet of watercolor paper with small dabs of various color samples with notes of the color name or number for quick reference. In short, everything I need to dive in and work on this particular work of art at a moments notice.…

I went to a gallery near my house this afternoon. The new artist featured is a chap named Peter Riedel. He builds inukshuks (rock balancing sculptures in the form of the Inuit of Canada's north) and other structures from rocks and sticks, then waits for the most opportune time to photograph them. I blew $400 on one of his very limited edition photographs, the most incredible combination of rocks, twigs and early morning fog. You can see it here.…

I know we do not realise it as much as we should but our lives are canvas... We fill it with what we can and dreams and some many other things... I should say life is a sketchbook as new begining can be said to be new pages.... Different emotions can become different paint colour or style or techniques... I was so down whole day but it is shocking who one person who believes in you can make a drastic change in your mood... William Coley you are my inspiration and thank you for believing in…

It's December 1st, I figured a good day to start something new. I joined The Art Colony, because I was looking to join a group of artists of all kinds. Art is art and to me, it's all good, no matter what the subject or medium used. I haven't done a lot of exploring yet, but from what I've seen so far, my reaction is--Oh, Wow! I feel like a kid in a candy store, looking around with big wide eyes. But I'm the kid that just can't choose just one, I love them all and appreciate all art forms.…

Since I was a little girl the only thing is was good was 'doodling'. I have had other talents but they have all been Adequate. I have had a little bit of glory in sports but never excelled so far and laziness always caught up with me. When i was seven I drew the perfect portrait of my favourite doll; mother was impressed and my teacher was impressed. So I ditched my dream to be an actress and decided to become and art teacher.
My teacher have had such an influence on me, on of my art…
