Digital Nature

Hi Everyone,

I have been playing around with digital art for a month or so.  I must before I was not one that was at all interested in this medium, but then I asked myself , Why? .  Firstly I felt it was a cop out and that people use stamps and the work is not their own, but how wrong was I.  I have now started doing digitals and my aim is to make them look more like a painting.

I started up with gimp because it is a free manipulation programme you can get online and easy to…

What is art to me?

I'm still rather new here so I guess I should tell you all a bit about myself. I'm 29 years old and going to college for art, though up until then i was all self taught as the schools i'd gone to didn't have a shred of art in them. Now that i'm going to school for it... i can say i've learned very little because of where I go...

Sadly i'm STILL self taught lol But I do know quite a bit about art history and terms now.

Though I am learning more about 3D…

painting subjects

sorta stuck in a rut...i would like to paint more from my imagination... dreams, visions, wondering, just stuff, and i never do it. i'm stuck painting things for others an d i would like to be selfish and paint something just for me,,, something that is me... and only me but i am afraid at the same time... not just that the painting will be judged or fail or succeed but that…

clouds are never white

i was told that clouds are never white.. but like water reflect many colors that surround them. i hard for me to always remember this. or rather to express it in paint.. i always think i"m going to ruin a painting using white, black or grey. I discovered that by mixing colors the best you can hope for is grey or some form of indigo, violet, or forest green grey,

 Any way…

on becoming real

i would like to say something about this painting and why i painted it. Some times we ignore what is right there. i know i do. but, what is right there is real or required real people like models and artists. when i see things it makes me think... In this case i noticed people not seeing this statue. may be they were not into sculpture. may be the museum of modern art in NY had…

My Art Work on Zazzle

I have been using Zazzle for quite a while now. I use it because they do customer service and shipping for the artist. All I have to do is be creative, post and advertise. This is why I use Zazzle, they help artists be artists. The following are links to my stores on Zazzle. I have designed a great variety of products with my art work.  :)…

New Year's resolutions and unfinished paintings

I am all for having New Year's resolutions, but like many people I have a hard time sticking to them. This year, however, seems to be the exception to that rule - to my delight, I have to say.

When the first of the year rolled around - seven months and a few hundred hours ago - I made myself the promise to do more art this year. Sure, I have always…

I had the privelage of travelling to Europe with my sister recently for nearly a month. we went to Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, Moscow, Vileki Novgorod and St Peteresburg.

I had always thought my art was not good enough and even though it was enough for me, not enough for an art exhibition.

My sister is an Artist, Interior designer and is a Director at a design college in Cape Town, so we were both very interested in building design and art etc.

The museums, were of…

Its dark outside, the heat of the day has settled into the cool of the night and with all the lights turned of except one I lay out a canvas. Been here before, many times, different places, seasons, emotions. Waiting to begin, savouring the moment and in doing so recognizing it for what it is. A meditative connective with myself and the outside, the real fix, creation and expression. Today i am that much more than…

Love the Freedom of the SWAP Group

I love the freedom of the SWAP group! I'm a very free form artist. I like things messy! I do like a few guidelines, like size of the page and a theme, but that's it! I'm a collage artist. I let the the pictures and words lead me into a piece. I work from vintage magazines, and I spend a lot of time paging through, until the images speak to me.

Spur of the moment

Late at night ,doors open to the garden and listening for the first time to a  musical recommendation of a friend. I am painting a sea picture, again, always!!.  All is going well and for a moment i am too absorbed in the act and reach out for a tube of Prussian Blue, the heat of the day has made the paint more fluid than normal and as i squeeze gently onto the canvas it all goes wrong. In slow motion a dollop of BLACK paint spurts out and i freeze. Lucky for me i am in slow motion so time is…

Here i go again

i am waiting to begin, counting time, stretching. Trying to make something of nothing is tiring, extracting an image from the completeness of now brings as much pleasure as pain . The pleasure is the discovery of concept,a pattern ,a mix of colour, a shape forming into something totally different and keeping up as it does so. I paint in a rush, i move through the brush and spread myself on the canvas, every time a whole person opened up leaving a little behind each time i close a…
