Who would have imaged he would bring someone in their home not born in Louisiana.  Soon this Step mother started demanding Snow White stay away from the Bayous and Swampland.  Saying things like “ladies do…

New Orleans

Life has been moving kind of fast but time is a man made thing anyway, so let me slow it down. Went to New Orleans yesterday with my husband. It was great kind of cool and the city was not so crowed until after 8:00 pm. We went to Frenchman’s Street, it is great. Most of the bar rooms and places that plays jazz or Blues do not allow smoking!!! YES!!! Then I love the artist market (outside) with all the lights. They stay open until 1:00am. I could stay there forever. We danced and I bought a…

Cajun Coon ass

From a very small child I heard my mother tell different people "Yea we are Cajun Coon Asses, and then she would laugh". Today looking up when and why we were called Coon Asses was a a bit of a surpise to me. Below is what I found.

The origin of the term is said to have come from the French word "conasse". During the Second World War, many Cajun men served in the armed forces. When in France, many of the French heard the Cajuns speaking in a French that was both very old and in a…

Cajun

Since posting the swap my mind has worked over time to find something to do. Well last night my mind came up with many things so today going to give some of it a try. Wish me luck. Not having a craft store near (closes one 54 miles away) does not help but I’m going to use things in my home. My first project is something to do with food because we do most of our socializing with food. If you ever get invited to a Cajun person’s home for boiled crawfish, crabs, or shrimp run to the table. Now…

Cajun People

The Cajun Culture

“How we came to be Cajun.” It all started in the 1600s, France wanted to rid itself of a large population laborers and peasants. So our people fled to a New France, what is now called Nova Scotia and settle down with family and their religion, Catholic very devoted to the Blessed Mother. They believed in the power of prayer. This is how Acadia was formed. In this new community they grow larger and stronger.

When Britain took over in 1710 no true…
