I have been painting with acrylics for the last three years and always had a hard time with clouds and water.......also of the paint darkening too much. So I had some oil paints I bought on a whim a year ago, I tried them and didn't like the drying time so I put them back in the box. Today I was sick of trying to do the clouds and water on a painting and remembered that oil blends easier...........so I took them out and whoa..........I did a painting in an hour of sky and…READ MORE
Well I have started to paint the paintings for my gallery next summer. Already am feeling the pressure! Anyway I am doing a few boat paintings over the next while and I decided to use some retardant in my paintings so I can blend the water a bit better. Can't say I like the stuff. It didn't blend well with the acrylic paint and left a rough surface in comparison to the plain paint. I learned to paint without it and I guess I will continue to paint without it.
I am doing PEI Dirt…READ MORE
Hi! This is a big step for me.......I have rented a studio in a very famous location for the summer 2014. The shop is small but is on a very touristy boardwalk. Expensive yes...! However it is location! location! location! It is in Cavendish PEI Canada it is very near the location of the Anne of Green Gables and Road to Avonlea sites so there are thousands of people coming to this location every year. So I am expecting to do some business! It will also lead to other venues just because of…READ MORE
Today I am getting ready to leave on vacation in Ontario. We are going to a family wedding and are staying for two weeks. I thought I would miss painting while I was gone but I decided to load my paraphernalia in my truck and for a good reason. When I was growing up my younger sister used to draw and paint but dropped it as I did because life took over. Something neither of us should have done but we can't help the choices we made when we were younger so I will move along. Anyway she has…READ MORE

Well I have been to two lessons and the first one was properly drawing houses with the correct perspective etc. It helped to draw the roof and the proper dimensions. The second was painting in monochrome to correctly get perspective. He also showed me that it is best to gesso the canvas in color instead of just white. Such as sienna to warm up colors like the water and sky for beach scenes. I always did white only and what a difference this makes in a painting. Then he sketches the painting…READ MORE

Today I started painting lessons from a well known Canadian artist. I learned more on perception in two hours from him than I did on my own in two years. Now to practice it and next week he will teach me face on portraits. I am expecting it to be very helpful for my future artworks. I can't wait to go back and find out more the tricks of the trade. This man can do paintings with 50 people in them. What an artist!
My art of course is very different but I am not going to him to copy his…READ MORE
