I am an abstract artist, I work with no boundaries except the size of my canvas which can vary dependant on how I'm feeling. Colour can be hard to work with, too much and you run the risk of overworking the piece, too little and it could look bland, uninteresting and uninspiring.
Abstract is not an easy painting style it isnt a cop out because you don't or can't paint figures or landscapes, to most people abstract painting just looks like somebody has thrown paint on a canvas without thought or pre planning, I was guilty of that in the beginning then stopped and thought about it, I drew my designs out roughly making sure the composition was right, then came the hard bit the colours what goes with what and how much to put on so it wouldn't be overworked or bland there is a fine line but if you can find it and not cross it abstract can look amazing
