My first oil painting is underway. I love the texture, and my technique will hopefully improve with practice, but the cleaning...oh, well. Although I have two stories that I need to finish writing, since they are both on a deadline, and yet the call to paint had been too hard to resist. Umm...I think I should start writing comic books, more pictures, less words. :)

Oh, this sounds so familiar! I'm a freelance writer, but I do a lot of my own writing projects. It's hard to shift gears for me at times. I am close to finishing my first book of poetry, but I've been painting a lot lately. Do you use different activities to get ready to write or paint? I learned to do that in art school, but the strange thing is that I do different things depending on if I'm getting ready to paint or write. When I write (especially poetry), I need to have plain hot tea and listen to classical music. If I am getting ready to paint, I drink coffee and eat a piece of dark chocolate. I find that doing those things help me to get in the flow for the creative activity I want to do.

Hi Sheila

Writing is a passion for me (9 stories, including 2 full length novels published) but it is not my day job. I paint and sketch when the mood strikes me, but have not done so since December. My writers' group and I are working on bringing out an anthology in June this year, and it is keeping me busy :) Not only to get all my things done, but also to get them to finish their stories in time.

My work schedule is also a nightmare this year, so I don't see much art happening in the foreseeable future.

Sad really, but that is the way these things work out sometimes.

Congrats on the novels! I have been working on my first. The only thing I have published besides a science textbook and other work done freelance is a collection of short stories. I sold the rights to them and the buyer published them on Amazon. My freelance writing work has all but slowed to a halt due to the series of changes by Google. Most of my recent freelance work was SEO writing for websites. I've shifted my focus to my writing projects and art.

Thank you! If all goes to plan, the third novel in the series will see the light in November. I have also done some SEO writing, but stopped doing it mainly to focus on my own writing and I got bored with rewriting other people's bad stuff. The money was simply not worth it.

Good luck with your poetry book - hope it does well for you!
