I see a lot of fine, fine artists on here saying they are not good enough and they may as well quit! When I came to this site I was feeling the same way.
Then, I got up the courage, after encouragement from friends on here to show my 'artwork.' Well was I shocked! I got comments I wasn't expecting. They told me my work was great! They encouraged me and liked it. So..I'm not so down on myself now. They really boosted my confidence. I feel so terribly sad when I see an artist who feels this way..I try to encourage them too. What we think can be our own worst enemy.
I would like to tell you all, my fellow artists, that you ARE good enough!!! God gave you a gift.

You said it so eloquently.Last year I just had a friend shout at me "Get out of your own f@#$ing way!" So I did, and here I am LOL

You, speak the truth! This place is the bomb.com. An artist really has to get the idea that all of their artwork will not be fantastic.

"Get out of your own f@#$ing way!"

Probably every artist should have this saying pinned above their easels!!!!!  We shouldn't be our own worst enemies.

Its kind of like...one mans trash is another mans treasure!! Everyone has their likes and you never know what is going to hit someones fancy!! I am so very new at art that any compliment/comment i get is wonderful. You can not get better if you dont take the good with the bad. The critiquing sometimes isnt an easy pill to swallow but ive learned to listen, take it all in and then file it. I take a little bit from every artist i work with or speak with. And although ive only been at this a few months i "feel" myself growing, i "feel" the confidence build. Now, that being said i do have problems literally starting a painting/drawing. I think i can then i get everything ready and just mess it up. so i back off (if not id drive myself insane with fustration) and either go to something else, get on the internet and look up a technique or call an artist and beg for their help (i have a couple on speed dial) LOL
