Carol, thank you for your nice comments. If I wasn't so new to all this, I probably would paint less loosely... I look forward to seeing more of your art on TAC - and welcome!

Hi Carol, Welcome to the Colony. Thank you for your comment on my work. As far as inspiration for my art, I've always loved fantasy. I recently learned about Zentangle, so you will see a lot of those patterns in my art, but most of them have at least some "realism" in them. My pixies started as little faces in Zentangle pictures (you can see the progression if you look at my early pictures. Then as I started wanting to put whole pixies in the picture I needed to study figure drawing a little! And of course, because they needed wings, I had to get out the butterfly books! Some of my pictures were inspired by photos I had taken. Some were purely imagination. The Tangled Wood Where Pixies Walk just came to me as a title, and there is an almost-poem teasing the back of my brain whenever I say it. That started the Tanglewood series. (I recently found out that there is a book series by that title by one of my favorite authors, Charles deLint. I'm going to have to read it!). I've also been inspired by artists and illustrators, VanGogh, Arthur Rackham, Garth Williams, to name a few.

So, the short answer to your question is: Imagination, nature, imagination, photographs, imagination, books, imagination, artists, imagination!

I'm looking forward to seeing some of your artwork soon!

Anne
