"low assemblage" construction

I am absolutely new to 'assemblage'. I'd like to do an ocean beach scene in acrylic paint on canvas and have variably-sized sea shells constituting structures on the beach, such as little cottages, and also composing a good bit of the beach itself. None of the sea shells are larger than about 3/8 inch (8 mm).?Can I use the thicker acrylic paint variants as 'glue' to hold the sea shells on the canvas?? I'd like it to last a long time.See More
